A month ago, Young Sohn, executive of Samsung claimed that the company had sold around one million Galaxy Fold devices, which turned out to be a piece of false information as in CES 2020, DJ Koh said that the actual number is somewhere in between 400,000 and 500,000 units.
The fact that Koh is in charge of Samsung’s entire smartphone division makes his word seems to have more credit than that of Sohn. As the CEO of the enterprise, Koh surely has the exact sales number than the vague 400,000 and 500,000.
This is a big deal though. 400,000 means that the company has missed its 2019’s goal of selling half a million Galaxy Fold units and 500,000 is meeting what it planned. This vagueness is far from the one million units sold claimed by Young Sohn.
Samsung Galaxy Fold price in India is Rs 1,64,999, If you are considering one, here a comparison to help you make a decision:

Whatever it is, 400,000 or 500,000, the sales of Galaxy Fold is still impressive, given the fact that it belongs to a pretty new market. However, the number is nothing compared to what Samsung has achieved with its 5G devices. In 2019, the Korean electronics giant has sold over 6.7 units of its 5G Note 10 and S10.
The Galaxy Fold did not exactly have a smooth introduction though. Its official release was delayed for several months after the first design showed breakage after just a few hours of use. This had forced the company to go back to the drawing table to fix the issues. Finally, the first Galaxy Fold units reached the customers in September last year.
The sales might not be anything big but that is just the first step Samsung takes into the world of foldable devices. The company is reportedly working on several other foldable devices. Among them is a clamshell design that can fold vertically that Samsung scheduled to be released with the S20 next month. The device might be called the Galaxy Bloom:
