Amazon focuses seriously on robotics. Unlike many companies which consider technology as a distant novelty, Amazon has already started its robotics systems. The company has deployed a large number of 200,000 robotics drives all over the world, said Brad Porter - Robotics VP at the Las Vegas re:MARS event.

At the beginning of 2019, a variety of robotics systems were implemented at about 25 fulfillment centers in the US. The number is said to be over 100,000 including third-parties and its own homegrown systems. Although the company’s own systems basing on Kiva are the operation’s heart, both were seen in Amazon’s massive Staten Island fulfillment center.

And now, the e-commerce giant has introduced two new robots. They are Pegasus and Xanthus. Amazon said that there already have been 800 Pegasus robots which work as warehouse workers of package and delivery. They have been set up in fulfillment centers in the US.

In the attempt of solving questions about robots replacing human in work, Porter affirmed the critical function of robots while appreciating human’s role. Though robots help a lot at work, they are not all. Human still plays an important role in the operation. He also claimed that more than 300,000 full-time jobs have been created globally.

According to Amazon, the company’s robotic palletizers contributed to the work considerably. It is said that they have heaped over 2 billion totes. However, the achievement is expected to be further to make the one-day delivery standard for Prime users. The birth of these robots definitely affects warehouse employees who have suffered from a lot of pressure from working conditions. Responding to this problem, the e-commerce major is expecting to take advantage of robotics to reduce workers’ burden and help workers in work.
