Now, Android phone users can also enjoy Firefox Send, Mozilla has offered this service so that users can send files of up to 1GB with a simple website address.

On Friday, the company released the Android app, which works just like the other version of this service on browsers. The browser-based version was officially launched earlier this month after undergoing tests for several months. The service reportedly allows sharing of 1GB which are protected through encryption and no sign-in required. In addition, if users have a Firefox account, logging in with it can increase the size of files shared up to 2.5GB.

Besides Mozilla, there are other file-sharing services currently exist such as Dropbox, Google Drive, Box, Microsoft OneDrive, as well as WeTransfer. However, Mozilla stresses that its solution doesn’t involve leaving any traces on the web, and hence improve user privacy.

What about a Firefox Send version for iPhones and iOS devices? The company hasn’t said anything clear yet. But in a statement, it said that it would review the service’s usage on Android Beta and then decide whether or not an iOS launch is necessary.

Using Firefox Send, users are able to add optional password protection, they can also define the maximum number of times allowed for downloading a file and choose an expired date on which the file will be removed. None of the files can remain available for good.

Founded in 1998 by Netscape’s members, Mozilla is a free software community that uses, develops, spreads, and supports its own products with the aim to promote exclusively free software as well as open standards.

The Firefox Send service is in line with Mozilla’s recent steps to expands its businesses beyond the Firefox web browser, which it’s most famous for. However, with the increasing popularity of Google Chrome, Firefox is losing its spotlight. We can now hardly spot Firefox on iPhones or Android phones.
