A source familiar with the matter said iPhone 11 assembled in India is now available on the market.
For now, the Chennai factory of Foxconn is manufacturing iPhone 11 and iPhone XR, the one in Bengaluru is where Wistron assembles iPhone 7. The source also said Wistron used to manufacture iPhone 6s and iPhone SE but they had been discontinued last year.
After news of Apple making its latest iPhone in India broke out, major political parties like the DMK, the AIADMK, and the BJP wasted no time to take credit for making it happens.
On Wednesday, Edappadi K Palaniswami, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said in a tweet confirming iPhones making at Sriperumbudur plant had hit the market. He didn’t forget to mention the party’s effort to create more job opportunities in the region.
Last Friday, Union Minister for Communications, Electronics and Information Technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad took to Twitter to remind the public how the Narendra Modi government had created a smartphone manufacturing ecosystem in the country.
Dayanidhi Maran former Telecom Minister also expressed happiness when Apple manufacture the latest iPhone in India.
