Do you think that you just need to have healthy security habits and you will be safe on the Internet? If you do, think again. The fact that you’re careful with your online activities only means you are at a lower risk of being attacked, not hack-free, especially when India became an aim for cyber attacks this past year.

F-Secure, a Finnish company specialized in cybersecurity and privacy, reported that during the first six months of 2018, India was at risk of mass cyber attacks. In particular, the country underwent around 695,000 incidents, mainly from the US, China, the Netherlands, and Russia.
However, India obviously takes part in online attacks in other countries, too. In the first half of this year, Indian scammers and hackers accounted for 35,563 online attacks internationally, most of which aimed at the UK, Ukraine, the Netherlands, and Japan.

F-Secure studied the listed “honeypots”, which are “sitting ducks for cybercriminals”, to figure out how hackers work. The company was able to gather the most recent malware data and scripts on the latest hacking techniques.
According to the report, the firm obtained the insights by giving intentional allowance to potential hackers so that they can get unauthorized access to the similar services which masquerade a real one. Next, F-secure studied the attack path to find out what a honeypot is like to hackers.
Russia conducted the most attacks, at a number of 2,55,589. The US and China caused 1,03,458 and 42,544 incidents respectively. The Netherlands attacked 19,169 times as opposed to 15,330 incidents by Germany. The four countries made up a total of about 63% in 6.95 lakh incidents. India is the 21st most targeted countries for attackers, but it, in fact, is the 13th most attacked nation.
Since the country is gradually getting more and more digitized, there have been more attacks aiming at India. The increasing number of people going online also means more targets for hackers.
