IFF Files A PIL Against The Gujarat High Court To Challenge The PUBG Ban

PUBG ban was recently imposed in Gujarat. Although the ban hasn’t been renewed in Ahmedabad, the IFF has filed a PIL before the Gujarat High Court.

The explosive popularity of PUBG has taken India by storm. However, after numerous incidents related to the game occurred, the Gujarat High Court has issued a ban on the game in some cities. Now, the IFF (Internet Freedom Foundation) has filed a PIL against the Gujarat High Court to challenge the PUBG ban.

The IFF is an organization, which aims to fight for online freedom, handles cases like free expression, privacy, and net neutrality. The organization’s latest campaign is in opposition to banning of PUBG Mobile in Gujarat.

The IFF has appealed to the decision of the Gujarat High Court, stating the PUBG Mobile Ban is a violation to the Constitution’s Articles 14, 19, and 21.

Although PUBG Mobile ban in Ahmedabad has ended, while it was in effect, many arrests were made. The IFF argues that among 21 arrested people, 13 of them were college students.

There is no official statement to announce whether the ban will be enforced again. The hearing is expected to take place in a week or two.

As per the gaming company, in response to the ban in Gujarat, the company stated it was surprised learning about it.

In a statement, the company said:

PUBG Mobile was thought to have imposed a six-hour restriction for Indian players, but the company later clarified that it was just a glitch. Until now, the company hasn’t taken any measures to respond to the ban.

Another case similar to this is the Chinese TikTok app. The Madras High Court has asked the Central Government to issue a TikTok ban for “encouraging pornography.” TikTok is a social networking platform developed by Chinese technology company ByteDance. The app has taken India by storm recently.
