For large companies like Tesla, information security is a priority. However, it is a challenging task for companies to prevent hackers from attacking them with their sophisticated techniques. That is why they are forced to hire third-company companies.
But according to a new report from Bloomberg, there is a problem with one of the third-company working with Tesla. Specifically, a software breach in a company called Verkada exposed footage from hundreds of cameras in Tesla factories and warehouses around the world.
The security vulnerability was discovered and exploited by a group of hackers to gain access to surveillance systems. Not only Tesla, but the group also gained control of security cameras in different prisons, schools, hospitals, and police departments. They could even access logs from security doors.
As stated in the report, the way the group of hackers gained access to the security system of Verkada was that advanced or sophisticated. Instead, they had found what could be called the Super Admin account that allowed access to all the cameras connected to the Verkada system. The details of the account were said to have been published online.
Tesla has yet to respond to the issue. But perhaps the company will consider finding a new security partner in the future.
