Though Google has canceled its annual I/O developers conference due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the tech giant will still hold its Android 11 launch event scheduled for spring 2020.
Google uploaded a teaser video on YouTube via its official android Developers channel for the Android 11 Beta Launch Show, which will take place online on June 3. Before this, the company has released several preview builds for developers only, but the upcoming online event will celebrate the public beta launch of the next Android version. This means Google is close to officially roll out Android 11 at some time in 2020.
The tech giant launched Android 9 and Android 10 in August, and the coronavirus outbreak doesn’t seem to affect its traditional late summer launch.
As from the video, the online event may feature George Takei, a famous Star Trek actor, as the co-host. The video also promises updates on features, safety, connectivity, security, as well as other things on Android 11.
Based on the currently released preview builds, new Android 11 features include a new notification history log showing dismissed alerts, an inbuilt screen recorder, more touch-sensitivity options, along with the ability to turn on airplane mode without having to turn off Bluetooth. But the June 3 event will reveal official features.
Google has been releasing developers-only preview builds of the next Android version since early 2020. In a preview rolled out in late March, it appeared that Android may finally have a feature that iOS has possessed for years, the AirDrop feature. Dubbed Fast Share (or Quick Share for Samsung devices), the feature essentially allows users to share files with another Android device nearby.
