Android 11 Finally Unveils A Feature That The iPhone Has Had For Years

There are some iPhone features that haven’t been available on Android smartphones yet, like the AirDrop feature. Now, Android 11 finally seems to have it.

Steve Jobs introduced the first iPhone 13 years ago. At the time, he said that Apple was made to create products that are five years ahead of the competition. And the iPhone is a great proof for that statement.

For years, the iPhone has outclassed Android phones in many aspects though giant phone makers like Samsung and Android maker Google continues to develop phones and upgrade the operating system to make their product as good as iPhones. As a result, the gap between them is smaller and smaller.

However, there are still a number of iPhone features that haven’t been available on Android smartphones yet, like the AirDrop feature. Apple first introduced this feature with iOS 7, which allows users to share large files with other Apple products within seconds.

The good news is that, after all those years, Android users will finally get the same feature. Samsung is developing Quick Share, a feature similar to AirDrop, according to notes from a developer preview of Android 11.

In addition, Google is working on its own solution too, called Fast Share, which was mentioned in the release notes where the issues with the Android 11 update were discussed. Specifically, the note says that the process of Fast Share between two Pixel 4 phones completes successfully, but the interface on the receiving device says that it didn’t receive the file.

This may remind you of a video surfacing online 2 months ago that indicates the feature in action, transferring data between a Pixel 2 XL and Pixel 4.

As can be seen from the video, the implementation seems sleek and good as that on the iPhone. Users can also choose to be visible to either all users or selected ones.

However, as great as it may be to enjoy this feature, there’s no telling when Android 11 will come out, especially when Google has canceled its annual I/O conference.
