Wikipedia has long been known for being a place where you can find out about anything in any field, from technology to famous people, from major events to controversies in history. Now, it appears that it will enter the social network area.
Lately, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales unveiled the first social network of the company called WT Social (WikiTribune Social), created for those who don’t want to see fake news.
The idea Wales has is to hire journalists for writing and curating content for the platform and make users Editor-in-chief, which means they can not only report fake news or misinformation but can also suggest the kind of content or interviews they want to see.
There will be a sub-section on the network dubbed SubWikis, which is similar to Sub0Reddits, but the user will have more control than Reddit users. Importantly, users can report as well as alter headlines that are misleading.
WT Social went live in November and already has more than 2 lakh free users on the waitlist. The platform is limiting its userbase so that developers can deal with load more easily.
WT Social is free for all users, but it’s also open to contributions and donations that can further improve the platform.
If you want to become an early user of this social network, you can sign up and have the option of paying 10 GBP a month or an annual amount of 180 GBP.
When talking about SubWikis, Wales revealed the role users have with journalists.
One huge selling point of this network is that it won’t display any promotions or advertisements so that users will have a completely clean reading experience.
