Snapchat India: How To Create An Account And Change Your Username

Snapchat India has just added support for five more Indian languages, including Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, and Bengali.

Before this addition, Snapchat supports Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi, and Gujarati and this latest move brings the total number of languages to nine.

According to Nana Murugesan, Snap Inc’s Managing Director, International Markets, this addition is to better reflect the local culture.

Snapchat India is trying to build a standing in a country where Facebook-owned Instagram is doing so well. The company set up its first office in India in 2019 and established a team to build a local creator community, support local advertisers, and develop partnerships with organizations in the country.

Snapchat India has made public partnerships with WWM Times Group, NDTV, and TSeries. Other moves include an AR experience and Landmarkers for the Gateway of India and the Taj Mahal. In Indian festivals, the company also releases Stickers and Filters, and AR lenses.

Recently, Snapchat India collaborated with Reliance Jio for Jio’s Got Talent, an AR challenge.

Murugesan said that as India was one of the world’s most culturally diverse countries, they wanted to make Snapchat accessible to as many people as possible.

Each day, there is an average of 3.5 billion Snaps created and every user spends around 30 minutes on the platform. Snapchat is trying to personalize its content with Bitmoji TV.

A few years ago, Snapchat was under fire for the information of the idea of Snapchat CEO on India, which said that the country was too poor for the company to think about joining. The news was later denied by the company.

Snapchat is one of the world’s most popular messaging apps for sharing texts, photos, drawings, and videos. Downloading and using the app is free and the app becomes well-loved in a very short time, especially by young people.

One of Snap’s appeals is the fact that the messages will disappear from the recipient phone after a few seconds.

How To Sign Up Snapchat

Here is how you can sign up for Snapchat India after downloading the app:

Step 1: From Home screen, open Snapchat.

Step 2: Select Sign Up.

Step 3: Type in your name and then choose Sign Up.

Step 4: Enter your birthday.

Step 5: Choose a username.

Step 6: Type in a strong password.

Step 7: Fill in your email address.

Step 7: Verify your account.

You can choose to fill in your phone number or find your friends. If you do not want to do so, feel free to skip both by tapping Skip. Now, you have completed Snapchat sign up.

How To Change Snapchat Username

Although technically, you cannot change Snapchat India usernames, there are two workarounds to switch to another one. The first one is to change your display name, which is the one that appears to most people once you have created one, so people cannot see your username unless they visit your profile.

If changing the display name for Snapchat India is enough for you, here is the step-by-step guide on how to do so; otherwise, your only choice is the other option, which is to delete the account and create a new one with a new username.

Display name changing in Snapchat India is easy and straightforward and you can do so anytime you want.

Step 1: Open your profile by tapping on your bitmoji at the top left corner.

Step 2: Find the gear icon and tap on it. The Snapchat profile will show you your Snapchat trophies, Snapchat score, and Snapchat code. Tap on the gear icon again; this will take you to Snapchat settings.

Step 3: Choose the “Name” section. While you will see a “Username: field just below it, tapping on it won’t allow you to change the username but only options to share it by message, Twitter, Airdrop, and more. Try tapping on it if you want but there will not be any editing option.

Step 4: Fill in the new Display name. Type in whatever you want and you can leave out the last name section if you want to.

The display name is what people see in Snapchat India stories and chats so choose something you feel comfortable letting others see.

Step 5: Hit “Save.” Once the change is saved, you can go back to your profile by tapping the back arrow.
