What is Snapchat?
Snapchat is a mobile app available for both iOS and Android users. Its core concept is that any message, video, or photo you send is made available for the receiver for a short time only and will then become inaccessible. Originally, this characteristic of the app was meant to make the flow of interaction more natural.
The platform was initially focused on private, one-on-one photo sharing, but now users can perform different tasks on the app like sending short videos, messaging, live video chatting, sharing a chronological story to their followers, and creating caricature-like Bitmoji avatars. There is also a Discovery area where users can view short-form content from large publishers such as Buzzfeed.
How to know if someone blocked you on Snapchat
There are three steps of how to tell if someone blocked you on Snapchat, including checking recent conversations, searching the username/full name, and searching the name for another account.
Step 1: Checking recent conversations
Keep in mind that this method only works if you and the other user have chatted before. When you no longer see a person in your chat history, it’s the first big clue that you may have been blocked.
To check if someone has blocked you, open the Snapchat app then open the conversations tap. If the user you want to check doesn’t show up in your Chat list though you two had recently talked, it’s likely that you have been blocked. However, it’s not certain, it’s possible that you somehow deleted the conversation and forgot about it.
Step 2: Searching the person’s full name or username
If you have been blocked by someone, that person will not appear when you search their name on Snapchat. On the other hand, if they removed you from their Friend list, you will still be able to find them.
To find a person on Snapchat, open the conversations or snap tab, tap on the Search button at the top of the screen. Then, type their full name or username in the search box. If they show up in search results under the My Friends label, it means you two are still friends on Snapchat. If they appear under the Add Friends label, it means they removed you from their Friend list.
However, if the person doesn’t show up in search results, they have either blocked your account or deleted their account.
Step 3: Search their full name/user name through a different account
That brings us to the last step of how to know if someone blocked you on Snapchat. When you cannot find a person from your account, you can check if their account still exists by searching from a different account. You can ask for a friend’s help or create a new account to do this.
Through a different account, if you search the person’s name and they appear in search results, you have been blocked. Otherwise, it’s likely that they have deleted their account. However, it’s also possible that after deleting their current account, they have created a new one with a different name you don’t know and didn’t add you to their Friend list (which hurts).
How to unfriend someone on Snapchat?
Unfriend-ing someone on Snapchat means removing them from your Friends list to cut the connection between the two accounts. After this action, depending on your settings, the other person can still see your public information and stories, or even send messages to you.
To remove someone from your Friends list, you need to first open the Snapchat app then swipe to the right to open the Chat screen. Next, tap and hold on the name of the person you want to remove then tap on More > Remove Friend.
How to block someone on Snapchat?
Now, here’s how you can block a person on Snapchat. After opening the app, you still need to swipe right to open the Chat screen then open the chat with the person you want to block. Next, tap on their profile icon and tap on the three-dot icon at the top. Then tap on Block.
