Adobe recently announced at the International Broadcasting Convention 2019 (IBC 2019) that a new feature would come down later this year on Adobe Premiere Pro, expected to accelerate manual production tasks for video creators. The feature, named by Adobe as “Auto Reframe,” can automatically reframe and reformat content based on analysis of action occurring in the video, coupled with a prediction about which platforms they will be uploaded.
According to Adobe, Auto Reframe works with different aspect ratios including square, vertical, and cinematic 16:9 versions. For that, AI and machine learning technology has been exploited to provide the brand-new feature with the ability to realize the particular purpose of each video. Adobe said they were leveraging “over a decade of AI and machine learning capabilities” built into their flagship products. Particularly, all these capabilities were facilitated by Adobe Sensei, the artificial intelligence platform that has powered dozens of features across Adobe apps and features.
Auto Reframe allows users to choose between three different presets of motion: Slower Motion, Faster Motion, and Default. Each option corresponds to the number of movements expected to take place. Based on that, the algorithm automatically adjusts the video keyframes just like the act of manual fine-tuning.
Adobe has shown a clear ambition to save up production time for creators and optimize content for different platforms, especially social network like TikTok or Instagram. Besides adjusting frame function, the new feature can also resize added text equivalent to the video’s aspect ratio.
Recently, Adobe has been adding a variety of features to its current ecosystem of Creative Cloud apps, significantly focusing on social media. Adobe Premiere Rush CC is a typical example which renders different exporting formats optimized for social networks such as Snapchat or Instagram.
