Smartphone makers have not only competed fiercely in the high-end segment, but they have also faced a lot of competition in the mid-range segment. In this comparison, we have three great candidates in the segment, including Samsung Galaxy M30s, Honor 9X, and Redmi Note 8 Pro. If you are looking for a replacement for your old phones, these three could be a great choice.
Redmi Note 8 Pro vs Honor 9X vs Galaxy M30s: Design & Display
The Honor 9X is the most attractive phone of the three, with a full-screen panel with no notch or punch-hole. To achieve that, the brand has used the pop-up camera design. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy M30s and Redmi Note 8 use a dewdrop notch at the top of the display, so they will not offer an excellent display experience like the Honor smartphone.
Moving to the back, the highlight of the Honor smartphone is its ‘X’ logo that shines beautifully under the light. Paired with a gradient effect, the phone is covered with a 3D plastic layer that gives a glass-like appearance. The phone also features curved edges that offers an excellent grip. The Redmi smartphone, on the other hand, carries a glass rear panel with a gradient effect for a more premium feel, while the Galaxy M30s only has a plastic back and not as many gradient effects as its rivals.
All three smartphones have rear fingerprint readers, a headphone jack and a USB-C port. The Honor 9X sports a 6.59-inch LCD display, while Redmi Note 8 Pro is packed with a slightly smaller 6.53-inch LCD panel. For the Samsung device, it gets a 6.4-inch screen on a Super AMOLED panel. All three of them support Full-HD+ resolution.
Redmi Note 8 Pro vs Honor 9X vs Galaxy M30s: Hardware
The Honor 9X is driven by a Kirin 710F SoC. This powerful processor is aided by GPU Turbo 3.0 tech, which is claimed to boost the gaming experience. The Redmi Note 8 Pro gets processing power from an Helio G90T chipset, while the Galaxy M30s has an Exynos 9611 SoC. The Helio G90T should deliver the highest performance since it is a gaming-centric chipset. However, the Exynos 9611 SoC and Kirin 710F are still two power chipsets that can deliver smooth performance.
The Honor 9X is available in two RAM variants (4GB / 6GB), both of which pack 128GB of storage. As for the Galaxy M30s and Redmi Note 8 Pro, their base variants only have 64GB storage.
Redmi Note 8 Pro vs Honor 9X vs Galaxy M30s: Camera & battery
The Honor 9X gets a triple camera cluster, including a 48MP main sensor. Combined with it are an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP depth sensor. Moving to the Note 8 Pro, it has a 64MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 2MP dedicated macro camera, and a 2MP depth-sensing camera. As for the Galaxy M30s, the handset carries a 48MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 5MP depth-sensing camera.
Coming to the front, the Honor 9X is the only phone in this comparison to have a pop-up selfie camera. The pop-up module houses a 16MP sensor, which is protected by several fall detection features such as Downward Pressure Protection, Intelligent Fall Detection, and Dust & Splash Protection. As for the Galaxy M30s and Redmi Note 8 Pro, they both use a water-drop notch design. While the former has a 20MP selfie camera, the latter carries a 16MP front shooter.
When it comes to batteries, the Samsung smartphone should be the clear winner thanks to its whopping 6,000 mAh battery. However, that does not mean that the Redmi Note 8 Pro and Honor 9X have a poor battery life. The Honor phone has a 4,000mAh battery, while Xiaomi device is packed with a 4,500mAh battery. Both battery cells are quite large and they can easily provide a long battery life that can last for nearly a day.
Redmi Note 8 Pro vs Honor 9X vs Galaxy M30s: Conclusion
The Honor 9X is no doubt the most beautiful phone of the three. The full-screen display and pop-up front camera give Honor's device a great appearance. The smartphone also offers 128GB storage on the base variant that the other two handsets don’t. However, the Galaxy M30s and Redmi Note 8 Pro also have their own strengths. For the same price, Samsung phones can give you massive battery life, while Xiaomi smartphone offers top-notch performance and impressive camera setup.
