At a recent launch event in India, Xiaomi’s former sub-brand POCO has introduced a new smartphone dubbed POCO X2. The handset is positioned in the mid-range segment with many attractive features. Here are some photos of the POCO X2 and our first impressions of the device.
Packaging & Design
The packaging of the handset is quite simple. It is printed with the brand name and the yellow product name is quite prominent.
The POCO X2 package has a handful of accessory including a quick charger, USB-C cable, SIM removal tool, a silicone phone cover, and a user manual.
The POCO X2 has a design quite similar to Redmi K30, especially in the camera cluster. Specifically, the camera cluster is arranged vertically, surrounded by a reflective ring that highlights the quad-camera cluster.
On the front, you can see that it also sports a punch-hole display with dual selfie cameras.
If you put POCO X2 and Redmi K30 side by side, it is nearly impossible to distinguish between the two. The only difference between the two devices is the logo.
The handset has a premium design with two sides protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It is 8.8 mm thick and weighs 208 grams.
The fingerprint sensor is mounted with the power button instead of being placed under the screen as many mid-range devices on the market today. One of the main reasons is that the phone uses an LCD panel, which can’t be integrated with an under-display fingerprint sensor.
The right side is where the fingerprint sensor, power button, and volume keys are located.
The left side is where the SIM tray is located.
The top of the device is where the infrared sensor and noise-canceling mic are located.
The bottom of the device houses a USB-C charging port, a microphone, an external speaker and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Display
The POCO X2 is equipped with a large punch-hole screen, supporting a 120Hz refresh rate.
Quite powerful specifications
The POCO X2 specifications are identical to those of Redmi K30 4G. Specifically, the handset is equipped with a Snapdragon 730G SoC, 6 GB RAM with two internal memory options of 64 GB / 128 GB or 8 GB RAM with 256 GB storage.
The phone will run on customized MIUI 11 interface based on Android 10 out of the box.
Cameras
The POCO X2 is equipped with a quad-camera array. The main camera is a 64MP Sony IMX686 sensor with f / 1.9 aperture, an 8 MP wide-angle camera with f / 2.2 aperture, a 2 MP depth camera with f / 2.4 aperture and a 2 MP macro camera with an aperture of f / 2.4.
The dual punch-hole on the front. The main camera has a resolution of 20 MP while the depth sensor has 2MP resolution.
Battery
The POCO X2 is equipped with a large 4,500 mAh battery that supports 27W fast charging (Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0+) and liquid cooling technology.
The handset is equipped with a large battery that can be enough for the whole day.
The fast charger included with the device can charge the battery fairly fast.
Reasonable prices
The POCO X2 has a starting price of Rs 15,999 in India for the 6GB RAM and 64GB storage variant while the price is Rs 16,999 for the 6GB RAM / 128GB storage variant. You can also get the top end Rs. 19,999 for the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage option.
The phone is sold in three color versions: Atlantis Blue, Matrix Purple, and Pheonix Red.
Verdict
With an attractive, beautiful design, powerful hardware configuration, trendy punch-hole screen, quad rear cameras, and an affordable price, the POCO X2 will be worth considering in the mid-range segment.
