Last February, OPPO launched a new mid-range budget smartphone, the OPPO A31 (2020), which brought in a number of notable highlights in terms of design and camera. This smartphone with a starting price of Rs. 11,490 promises to help OPPO have more firepower to compete with other manufacturers like Xiaomi and Realme in the market in the price segment of less than Rs 15,000.

Over the past year, OPPO has been focusing entirely on the mid-range and high-end segments thanks to the outstanding success of the OPPO Reno line. However, that doesn’t mean OPPO has abandoned the budget segment. And although OPPO A31 was launched with the price of only around Rs. 12,000, the device is still great in design as well as comes with some outstanding highlights about the camera, battery life ...

OPPO A31 and all bundled accessories, including flexible silicon case, 5V / 2A charger, micro-USB charging cable.

OPPO A31 has a youthful and eye-catching design, especially with this Fantasy White color version, the device has a gentle and attractive gradient effect. In addition, OPPO A31 also has another color option is Mystery Black.

This back is made from rough plastic. The advantage of this rough plastic material is that it is hard to scratch, leaving no fingerprints, offers a great grip.

The back of the device is also home to a triple camera setup, which includes a separate macro camera. Right next to it is the words "Designed for A-series" and the middle of the back is a fingerprint sensor, offering fast unlocking speed.

Below is the familiar "OPPO" logo

On the front, it is equipped with a 6.5-inch screen, using IPS LCD panel with HD + resolution (720 x 1600), display ratio of 20:9.

This screen has a "waterdrop" design with thin bezels. The screen cut is where the speaker and 8MP selfie camera are located.

The bottom of the screen is a bit thick, but this is acceptable for a cheap device like OPPO A31. Its display has a relatively high brightness level so you can still use it comfortably in harsh lighting conditions.

At the bottom of the device is the place where the 3.5mm headphone jack, microphone, charger port, and speaker grille are. One downside is that while all other manufacturers have upgraded to the newer USB Type-C standard, the OPPO A31 still comes with the outdated micro-USB standard.

There is a power button on the left side.

And the right side is the SIM tray + microSD card slot and a volume rocker

The device has dual sim slots and a dedicated slot for a memory card. That means users can use both sims and memory cards at the same time, without sacrificing either memory card or 2nd sim card

The OPPO A31 runs on Android 9 Pie out of the box with custom Color OS 6 interface with many features.

Its hardware configuration is decent with MediaTek Helio P35 chipset, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage.

Another impressive feature of the OPPO A31 is the battery life when the device has a battery capacity of up to 4,230mAh. It is quite disappointing that the handset doesn’t support any fast charging technology, so it might take a bit longer time to charge it.

Overall, OPPO A31 is a decent smartphone in the price segment of less than Rs. 15,000 with some outstanding features such as an attractive design, a dedicated macro camera, and a beefy battery. However, the device still has some minus points such as HD + resolution display and the outdated micro-USB charging port.
