Sony Xperia 10 Summary

Sony announced the Xperia 10 on February 25, 2019, alongside the Xperia 1 and Xperia 10 Plus at the Mobile World Congress. These are the smartphones in the Xperia series of the Japanese phone maker. At the price of Rs 28,990, the Sony Xperia 10 is the cheapest among the three with the Xperia 1 priced at Rs 73,990 and the Xperia 10 Plus priced at Rs 35,990.

Display

The smartphone sports an IPS LCD touchscreen measuring 6.0 inches that displays 16 million colors. The screen features a screen-to-body ratio of 79.3%, a resolution of 1080x2520 pixels, an aspect ratio of 21:9, and a pixel density of 457 ppi.

In-plane switching (IPS) is a screen technology for LCD panels. It was created to solve the problems of the TN matric in liquid-crystal displays, including low-quality color reproduction and strong viewing angle dependence. IPS involves switching and arranging the orientation of the molecules in the LC layer between the glass substrates.

Overall, the Xperia 10 screen is excellent. The 21:9 aspect ratio is a cinematic ratio that’s really rare in the smartphone market. It gives the phone a superior viewing experience with a wider field of view like the screens you see at the movies. Not just that, this ratio means the phone is taller but still narrow enough to hold and use in one hand.

With the 1080x2520-pixel resolution and 457ppi pixel density, images look so smooth on this display that you hardly see the pixel individually. Besides, the color and contrast are great, allowing you to see everything clearly and nicely no matter if you’re indoor or outdoor.

The graphics performance is amazing in gaming also in case you’re wondering. The Sony Xperia 10 still displays beautiful colors and high contrast with a lot of detail in mobile titles. The frame rate is stable and you won’t likely experience any drops or lags when you’re playing. All in all, this screen is decent for both watching videos and gaming.

Chip

The Sony Xperia 10 is powered by the Snapdragon 630, a familiar mid-range set of chips. This is a 14nm octa-core processor that consists of eight 2.2GHz cores, paired with the Adreno 508 GPU.

On AnTuTu 7, with this chip, the phone gets only 89,697 points in total, lower than some rivals like the Samsung Galaxy A7 (123,883) and Huawei Mate 20 Lite (136,583).

Regarding gaming, Qualcomm offers 30% higher performance than the Snapdragon 626 and 625. The GPU of this processor is also 30 percent better than the Adreno 506.

As we said in the previous section, gaming on this phone offers a very good experience for users. Though this is a mid-range chip, it can handle any gaming title for you at either the 30fps or 60fps frame rate. From racing games to intensive titles like Free Fire, you will get the same efficient gameplay. The images and actions are both smooth with zero lags.

Storage

In terms of the storage, the Sony Xperia 1 comes in two variants. The first one is 3GB RAM with 64GB internal storage, and the second one is 4GB RAM with 64GB of internal storage.

These days, the average RAM capacity for a smartphone is 4GB, which is just enough for multitasking and gaming. So, the 3GB is a bit too low if you want to focus on gaming, though this capacity still allows you to play any mobile title you want.

We haven’t found any complaints relating to an overheating issue on the Sony Xperia 10. However, it’s important to note that if you play games for long hours, the phone will heat up like every other device. With a small RAM capacity, the phone’s temperature may go high, but you can prevent this by avoiding playing when charging the handset and trying to play in a cool environment to slow down the heating-up process.

Also, you will notice that the heat mostly concentrates around the top of the phone and around the camera module. This may cause an unpleasant feeling in your hand.

Battery

The Sony Xperia 10 packs a non-removable 2870mAh battery as well as support for 18W fast charging and Quick Charge 3.0. This battery capacity is pretty far from good, considering that the average battery now is at least 4,000mAh.

With this smartphone, the battery life is about 8 hours and 5 minutes, which isn’t impressive either. But keep in mind that battery tests always involve having the phone do one task non-stop until its juice runs out. Therefore, in the real world, the handset can still last an entire day for a moderate user. If you play games continuously, you may last only a couple of hours.

Camera

On the back of the phone, there are two lenses, including a 13MP wide-angle lens along with a 5MP depth lens. The camera module is supported by an LED flash, panorama, and HDR mode. You can record videos at 4K or 1080p resolution and the 30fps frame rate.

Meanwhile, on the front, there is a single 8MP wide-angle selfie lens that allows for video recording at 1080 pixels and 30 frames per second.
