Samsung Galaxy A71 5G Summary

Galaxy A71 5G

The Galaxy A71 5G is expected to be released on August 21 this year.

Compared to the Galaxy A51 5G, the A71 has a larger display, and a more powerful processor.

However, for raw power, users had better go for the iPhone SE, which shares the same processor with the flagship iPhone 11 Pro.

Galaxy A71 5G’s price in India is expected to be Rs. 44,900.

Display

The display of Galaxy A71 5G measures 6.7 inches, just a bit bigger than the 6.5-inch screen of the Galaxy A51. However, that is the extent of the difference between the two models.

Users still have the same 1080p resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, and the AMOLED display.

Overall, the screen looks great. A higher resolution will be warmly welcomed but that is something you would expect to see on a flagship device. The AMOLED panel makes for vibrant colors and deep black. The screen is bright enough to be used under direct sunlight.

Users can rely on the under-screen fingerprint sensor, which works well enough, better than that on the Galaxy A51. There will be some fail attempts but not too much to make the experience frustrating.

Processor

The Galaxy A71 5G runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 chipset, which enables the phone to work quickly for multitasking and some popular mobile games.

This performance is a stark contrast to that of the Galaxy A51, which seems to freeze under anything more than light use, which we can blame the Exynos 9611 processor for.

However, if you are looking for the best value for money, a mid-range phone with the best performance, consider iPhone SE with the A13 Bionic chip, the one powers iPhone 11 Pro.

The only processor that can rival the capacity of the A13 Bionic chip is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, which, unfortunately, only appears on flagship phones, including the Galaxy S20.

If we leave iPhone SE out of the picture, Galaxy A71 5G can beat most of its mid-range competitors.

It can easily outperform the Pixel 4a, powered by the Snapdragon 730 when it comes to raw power. However, since the Pixel 4a has a stripped back software, users may feel the phone runs more quickly and smoother.

For mobile gamers who don’t have a deep pocket, Galaxy A71 5G is a decent choice as it can handle games like Asphalt 9 and Call of Duty: Mobile with ease. The only problem users will notice is the delay in loading, but when the game has started, everything feels smooth and fluid.

The benchmark performance of Galaxy A71 5G is excellent given its price. While the performance cannot beat that of iPhone SE, which scores more than 480,000 on Antutu, with Snapdragon 765 under the hood, it should have an edge over other phones belonging to the same price bracket.

Those who can stretch their budget a little more can get the OnePlus 8, with Snapdragon 865, which definitely better than the Galaxy A71 5G.

One of the perks of having this phone is the 5G support, making it one of the cheapest smartphones possessing this future-proof feature. The phone has support for sub-6GHz 5G and mmWave so you should have the fastest speed your carrier can offer.

However, the phone is expected to be dethrone soon as 5G is the new trend so OEMs are working to add the feature to more of their handsets. Pixel 4a 5G is about to be released, along with many others like it.

If you need a new 5G phone, like right now, getting the Galaxy A71 5G is a good choice, but if you can wait for a few more months, your list of options will likely be extended.

RAM

With 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage, paired with the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 765, the phone is speedy enough for most usual needs like gaming and day-to-day tasks.

Battery

The excellent performance of Galaxy A71 5G is made possible by the large battery, which can last for a full day even under heavy use. With this capacity, most users will have no problem with the phone’s battery life.

Many users report having around up to 40% of juice left at the end of a heavy day of usage with the phone’s 4,500mAh power cell.

Galaxy A71 5G supports 25-watt fast charging, which can charge the phone by 50% in just half an hour, a quite impressive rate.

Camera

On the rear, the Galaxy A71 5G features a quad-camera setup consisting of a 64MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, 5MP macro sensor, and 5MP depth sensor.

Samsung has done a great job selecting which cameras to give its mid-range phone. While many users will prefer a telephoto lens over a macro one, the overall performance of the A71 5G when it comes to photography is undeniably solid.

However, a phone of this price range will depends heavily on the environment to click good photos.

Under good lighting condition, the photo quality is decent with enough dynamic range and details, colorfulness and brightness. In low-light situation, expect to see a lack of detail and quite a lot of noise, which is unsurprising, given the price of the phone.

The phone has its own Night Mode to eliminate some noise. But even when you turn it on, the low lowlight photo quality still lags behind that of Pixel 4XL and iPhone 11 Pro.

When it comes to photography, the biggest rival if the Galaxy A71 5G is the Google Pixel 4a. There have been only a few reviews but most people expect a camera arrangement similar to that of the Pixel 4, a flagship-level phone.

The macro lens seems pretty useless on the Galaxy A71 5G as users will have a hard time focusing it. Plus, it has a fixed focal length. Even when you manage to have a focus, the result still lacks of colors and details.

Overall, with decent light, you will be able to click passable photos with this phone.
