Realme Watch Summary

The Realme Watch is for those who want a smartwatch but at a more affordable price. Like the Realme Band, the company manages to squeeze into the watch body some features that are normally found in more expensive watches. You have a built-in heart rate monitor, 24/7 activity tracking, and a SpO2 sensor as well. With connected GPS, the watch can track your outdoor activities. You can also view notifications and listen to music.

In terms of design, the Realme Watch looks similar to the Apple Watch with a touchscreen display and watch straps that are swappable. However, unlike Apple’s smartwatch, Oppo claims that the Realme Watch can last for a whole week.

Realme Watch Release Date & Price

Realme launched the Realme Watch in May 2020 at a price of $50. You can buy additional bands in blue, green and red. Each strap costs $14.

Realme Watch Design & Display

The Realme Watch is like a mix of a Fitbit Versa and an Apple Watch but with a more plastic design. The device has a 36.5mm case, a thickness of 11.8mm and a weight of only 31g. It is light enough to wear but doesn’t feel cheap at all. The casing has a glossy finish, making it look more expensive. But it is definitely plastic.

There is a solitary physical button that you can use to wake the watch. However, the touchscreen display is still the main means of navigation. The display doesn’t cover the whole watch as a large chunk is taken. With a dark watch face, it is less noticeable. However, it is disappointing that there isn’t more screen to use here.

In terms of quality, the screen of the device is certainly not the best. It still offers good brightness though. When you wear the watch indoor, there isn’t any visibility issue. When you go outside, you will have to adjust the brightness to the maximum for the best viewing experience. It’s great that Realme uses Gorilla Glass 3 to protect the screen. However, an always-on display mode isn’t available.

The screen has a bigger issue, which is responsiveness. And in that regard, it isn’t very good. At times, when you tap or swipe, it can be slow to respond. This can be more of a problem when you are working out and your fingers become sweaty.

The watch has a black silicone strap that can be changed into other Realme’s silicone bands that come in brighter colors. Instead of having the watch-style buckle, the strap uses a single button claps. Although these bands aren’t feeling the most luxurious, they are fitting and are comfortable to wear.

Can you go swimming with the watch? The answer is no since the Realme Watch only has an IP68 rating, meaning that it can only withstand some sweat or water splash during dishwashing.

Realme Watch Performance & Software

Realme uses its home-grown operating system that only works with an Android phone. The company doesn’t reveal any information regarding the watch memory or processing power. But it isn’t perfect for sure. While the watch can launch menus and features without issue, it experiences some noticeable lag when you swipe through screens.

The software is straightforward to use. Swipe down from the top to view your notifications. However, you can’t reply to those messages.

Swipe up from the bottom and you will be taken to the main menu. You can use your phone to control music playback but not during exercise. When pairing the device with your smartphone, you can pull in weather forecasts. There is also a remote camera shutter mode.

Realme has plans to roll out an update that will let your use your smartwatch to control smart home devices such as lamps and speakers. But it will only work when those smart devices are from Realme.

Swiping left will take you to an array of widgets for heart rate, daily activity tracking, and sleep stats. You can also change the watch face by pressing down on the touch screen. Different watch faces are available in a companion app of Realme called Realme Link. This is where you can customize watch settings as well as reviewing health and fitness data.

Realme Watch Fitness

This is where the watch performs the best. For such an affordable amount of money, the device does its promise in monitoring and recording your health and fitness.

The watch tracks the number of steps taken, calories burned and monitors sleep. However, it can’t track stairs climbed as it doesn’t have an altimeter. The tracking is fairly accurate. Sleep tracking is pretty basic with deep, light, and REM sleep.

The Realme Watch can monitor your heart rate continuously. And it does pretty well in this regard.

There is even a SpO2 sensor for blood oxygen levels measuring. The watch takes around a minute to take those readings and store them in the Realme Link app.

It will also send you some useful reminders to tell you to exercise or drink some water. There is a meditation mode with guided breathing exercises, similar to what we have seen in Google’s Wear OS watches and Apple Watch.

Sports tracking modes are available too. The watch is able to track walks, outdoor runs, outdoor cycling, indoor running, yoga, and even cricket.

The device doesn’t have a built-in GPS but it can make use of your phone’s GPS for outdoor activity tracking. When you run on the treadmill, the watch tracks distance using its accelerometer.

Realme Watch Battery Life

According to Realme, the Realme Watch can last over a week. However, in reality, it can only get to four days or five days at maximum. That is the best it can last if you regularly use key features like notification support, heart rate monitoring, and turn the brightness to maximum.

There is a power-saving mode to keep things going for a bit longer. When the battery is drained, you can use a puck-style charging cradle to charge the device. It normally takes more than an hour for the Realme Watch to go from 0% to 100%.
