OnePlus 7T Summary

OnePlus 7T is among the easiest to understand and use high-end handset available on the market. Everything about the smartphone is pleasing and accessible but it doesn’t mean the phone is basic.

The phone features everything you will ever need, exclude all you don’t really want, and some extra functions you don’t know you need until you see them.

OnePlus’s latest upgrades have distinguished the OnePlus 7T from most smartphones releasing two years ago, giving you a real leap in terms of tech with everything you will find handy without paying too much to get a smartphone that may give you the feeling that it’s is overkill.

OnePlus 7T was released on September 26 2019 in India. Overall, the phone receives positive reviews for its cameras, software, and performance.

Display

The same Fluid AMOLED screen and 90Hz refresh rate on the OnePlus 7 Pro make it to the 7T but since the aspect ratio on the latter is only 20:9, you will have to settle for a 2400 x 1080 resolution.

The teardrop notch’s size has been reduced by 31% and the brightness has been increased by 27% compared to the OnePlus 7, reaching a total of 1,000 nits.

The 90Hz screen offers the kind of smoothness you can hardly experience with another Android phone. What you have is iPhone-like speed, even if iPhones have only 60Hz.

When users scroll through apps like Google Photos or Twitter, there will be no stutters nor jerkiness. The smoothness is something you can really feel, so it isn’t a gimmick, but a feature users can enjoy.

While the overall design might exude a modern feeling, that feeling is disrupted by the flat screen. The brightness of the screen is wonderful but its colors are muted and the Vivid can’t fix this problem.

Compared to the iPhone 11 Pro, the content displayed on the OnePlus 7T lacks life and looks rather washed out. Don’t expect much from the auto-brightness though, it usually sets a too low level.

Processor

Under the hood, OnePlus 7T is powered by the powerful Snapdragon 855 Plus, the same ship inside gaming handsets like Asus ROG Phone 2.

If there are still flaws with the screen, the processor is a total opposite. It’s fluid, fast, and can handle everything you throw at it, even mobile gaming.

The phone’s AnTuTu score outshines any other Android phone, only beaten by the more modern iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro.

OnePlus 7T’s 3DMark test is class-leading, making the phone a real monster.

With PUBG Mobile at maximum settings, the phone could handle 30 minutes of gameplay with no frame rate or performance drop. The battery lost 12% of juice after half an hour. The phone does heat up a bit but never quite reach the uncomfortable temperature.

RAM

With 8GB of RAM, OnePlus 7T can handle anything you throw at it, from day-to-day tasks to gaming. This much RAM also makes your phone future-proof.

Battery

The phone draws power from a 3,800mAh battery, which can translate to a full day battery life under moderate use, with around 20% of juice left when you go to bed at night.

Use the phone more regularly and this figure will drop, especially when you throw in some gaming sessions during the day. Under hard use, OnePlus 7T can get quite warm.

While we will have to wait for some more time to have a clearer idea of the battery life, what we can be sure now is the charger.

OnePlus said its Warp Charge 30T can fill up 70% of the battery in half an hour and offers a full charge in an hour. Tests have proven that the company doesn’t exaggerate what the charging tech can do.

In one of the tests, the phone reached 100% in 40 minutes, from 17%. So there is no need to plug the phone in overnight because you can easily have a full battery in under an hour. Plus, any recent charger can deliver this performance, not just the one OnePlus 7T comes with out of the box.

According to OnePlus, this performance is achieved with changes to the battery, not the adapter.

Camera

OnePlus 7T features a triple-camera setup consisting of a 48MP lens, with an aperture of f/1.6 and optical image stabilization, a 16MP ultra-wide lens comes equipped with electronic stabilization and a 12MP telephoto lens.

When the surrounding environment doesn’t have favorable light, users can rely on the phone’s enhanced UltraShot engine. There are also Nightscape and several other extra shooting modes added to the ultra-wide lens.

However, new users might get confused as they will have to activate the macro mode by a button at the top of the camera app’s viewfinder, not a separate mode like most of us think.

While there is no complaint about the camera hardware, the OxygenOS camera app isn’t very straightforward. To find the Settings button, you will have to conjure the slide-up menu, unlike with other camera apps when it’s right on the top of the screen.

OnePlus 7T’s macro mode outperforms all of its counterparts on other Android phones, resulting in useable photos with 16MP. You can really get close to the subject without dealing with an out-of-focus viewfinder or lots of shakes. Overall, the macro mode is fun to play around and get creative with.

It actually works on all the three lenses but the phone actually uses the ultra-wide-angle lens and when you pick a lens option, it will crop the photos.

OnePlus 7T’s Nightscape is a real leap over the counterpart on OnePlus 7 Pro.

The mode delivers low-light shots with details, warmth, and atmosphere. Users will notice more atmosphere in shots taken by the OnePlus 7T no matter which lens they use, wide-angle or standard.

The camera setup might not look nice on the phone but the photos they can take are sharp, detailed, and natural.

While the camera app may take some time to get used to, once you get the hang of it, you will see that the app is actually easy to use without any pause or stutter.
