With its Watch GT line, Huawei keeps adding to it mini but meaningful updates. And for the latest refresh, the company brings to the table premium design, wireless charging, and one of the smoothest software experiences. However, the GT 2 Pro isn’t perfect, as it doesn’t have third-party app support.
The design of the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro is great with titanium, sapphire, and ceramic. In the past, the company has released a few great-looking wearables. However, the GT 2 Pro could easily be one of the market’s best-looking smartwatches.
In terms of software, the smartwatch uses LiteOS, Huawei’s custom interface. While the interface is lite, it can’t beat other smartwatches that support third-party apps.
However, LiteOS is fully-featured and battery efficient. The watch shows you notification from your phone and pairs nicely with iPhones, unlike the original Watch GT 2. It will feed the data it captures to Google Fit, Apple Health, or MyFitnessPal.
Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro Release Date
Huawei launched the Watch GT 2 Pro in Europe on September 10. With the Huawei ban in place, the device won’t be launched in the US.
This watch is definitely more on the premium side. Its price is set at €329 (around $390). The classic edition is even pricier at €349 *around $410).
Meanwhile, the Huawei Watch GT 2 only costs £199 and the price of the Watch GT 2E is £159.
Thinking about the Peeble and the Gear S from Samsung, smartwatches have surely come a long way. Many have gone full circle with the finest ones looking more like their analog counterparts.
The Watch GT 2 Pro from Huawei is definitely one of the best looking smartwatches with a round design. Its sapphire glass and its frame bevels are bent into the sculpted titanium body.
While many smartwatches either feel insubstantial or clunky, the Watch GT 2 Pro balances a well-weighted, traditional-looking smartwatch with a bold display.
The 1.39-inch screen surely isn’t for people with daintier wrists. Similar to most smartwatches on the market, the screen of the Watch GT 2 Pro is OLED and its brightness is comfortable to view. The device’s auto-brightness will dim things down when you are indoor. Outdoors, the viewability is great.
On the right, there are two buttons looking like rotating crowns. But they are not. The top one will take you directly to your apps list And the bottom one is customizable.
Coming with the watch are a leather and a silicone strap with easy release clasps. You can also use standard fitting 46mm straps from third-party companies.
The watch is comfortable to use day-to-day, from waking and sleeping to working out. Despite having a unibody metal body, it doesn’t feel bulky at all. The ceramic back won’t leave your wrists sweaty.
If you are searching for a large digital timepiece with a classical look, look no further, as the Watch GT 2 Pro meets all your requirements.
Despite having pared back specs compared to Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 3 or the Apple Watch, the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro still runs smoothly.
The device comes with only 32MB of RAM, last-gen Kirin A1 CPU. So if you maximum smarts and third-party apps, you shouldn’t purchase the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro. But Huawei knows what it is doing as it has optimized the device’s software incredibly well. Even though it has familiar hardware, the UI of the watch feels smoother.
Why should you want a watch with low power? No smartwatch from Apple, Samsung, or Wear OS has excellent battery life.
But if you opt for this low-power watch, there are some compromises. The Watch GT 2 Pro doesn’t have third-party app support. It does not support interactive notifications either. It still relays notifications from your phone. However, there is no way you can respond to messages.
You can use the smartwatch as a Bluetooth receiver and call contacts directly. The watch calling is clear while the range is exceptional.
The core UI is a simple system. You cycle through menus including heart rate, sleep, weather, stress levels, and activity by swiping left and right. The GT 2 Pro will have Huawei’s voice assistant, Celia. Swiping down from the top will take you to a quick toggle menu while swiping up will bring you your notifications.
The Huawei Health app acts as a dashboard to help you manage your watch and keep your health stats.
If you are an Android user, the watch will upload your health data to Google Fit and MyFitnessPal. If you are using an iPhone, your data will be uploaded to Apple Health.
The upper physical button will take you to a list with fitness highlights. This is where you can see your workout records as well as tracking your Stress levels, heart rate, and SPO2.
There are more than 100+ workouts are tracked with the watch. The Watch GT2 Pro is also dust and waterproofing. It supports swimming in both open water and pools.
The latest LiteOS allows you to add and remove shortcuts for workouts. By doing this, you won’t have to scroll and find the workout that you want to track. If you prefer working out outdoors, the offline navigation aide is handy.
GPS is accurate. So does the heart rate monitor.
However, there is one massive issue with the watch. Every time you begin a workout, there is an incredibly loud and annoying voice telling you that you are training. Thankfully, voice coaching can be muted.
If the brightness of the watch is capped and you keep your workouts to a minimum, the watch can last 14 days, just like Huawei has stated. With regular use, it will last around 5 to 10 days.
