Huawei Watch GT 2 Summary

The Watch GT 2 from Huawei has excellent battery life, wellness, and health tracking features. However, to stand out from other smartwatches on the market, it needs to have better software.

Thanks to its attractive design and a beefy battery, the original Watch GT managed to stand out. And the Watch GT 2 still carries these same features.

Huawei does add to the watch some improvements. The company is attempting to make a strong push into the wearable market. As with the second generation, it has invested a lot of thought.

Huawei Watch GT 2 Price

The Huawei Watch GT 2 costs around $230 for the smaller 42mm model. If you go for the bigger 46mm model, the price moves up to around $260.

If you prefer a leather strap over a sports strap, the price rises to about $280 for the 46mm model. And with the US ban, you might have already guessed that the device isn’t available in the country.

Huawei Watch GT 2 Design & Display

The 42mm model has a thickness of 10.7mm, it doesn’t feel chunky when wearing on the wrist. Its weight is 29g, which is pretty lightweight. It has a 1.2-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 390 x 390.

Meanwhile, the 46mm model has a thickness of 10.7mm. It comes with a 1.39-inch AMOLED screen with a 454 x 454 resolution. With a brightness of 1,000 nits, the display is bright and sharp.

Compared to the 46mm model, the 42mm variant is a bit more compact and is more suitable for people with small wrist.

Both models have a 3D glass screen for a bezel-less design. The curved edges are merged into the casing. The design is similar to that of the original Watch GT.

The watch is also equipped with a 5ATM rating. This means that the watch can survive 50 meters underwater for a maximum of 30 minutes.

The right side of the watch houses two buttons. One if for launching workouts and health tracking while one is for selecting built-in apps. From the home screen, swiping down will reveal quick settings like find my phone, alarms, and do not disturb. Swiping up will show recent notifications.

On the right edge is a mono speaker. The speaker is actually quite loud when listening to music and taking calls.

On the left edge is a microphone that works well even when you are in a crowded place.

Huawei equips the Watch GT 2 with an array of detecting and tracking sensors like an accelerometer, gyroscope, optical heart rate, air pressure, and ambient light. However, these features are fairly standard for a smartwatch though.

Huawei Watch GT 2 Hardware

The Wach GT 2 uses Huawei’s Kirin A1 chipset with intelligent power-saving tech. The device has 2GB of RAM with 4GB internal storage. However, only 2.2GB is usable. It is enough to store around 500 songs.

For connectivity options, the watch offers built-in GPS as well as Bluetooth 5.1.

Sadly, there is no NFC support, so you can’t use the watch to make payments. You will also have to pair the watch with your phone as there is no WiFi or LTE.

Huawei Watch GT 2 Software

The device uses Huawei’s Lite OS. For the most part, it is enough to use although it doesn’t offer as many features as Google’s Wear OS, Apple’s watchOS, Samsung’s Tizen, and Fitbit OS. It may feel a bit sluggish.

Since Huawei doesn’t have an app store, the smartwatch doesn’t support third-party apps. You can’t customize the watch or add widgets, making the Watch GT 2 feel more like a digital watch than a smartwatch.

You can share your data with MyFitnessPal and Google Fit. But it is best to use the Huawei Health app.

The app has four tabs. The daily health record is shown on the home screen. The second tab is for various exercise modes. For other Huawei-supported devices, select the third tab. And the final one is for profile, personal achievements, settings, and weekly and monthly reports.

The smartwatch supports smartphones iOS 9.0 or higher or Android 4.4 or higher.

Huawei Watch GT 2 Features

The smartwatch houses a wealth of options in terms of fitness tracking. You can use the Huawei Watch GT 2 to track various workouts like running, walking, rowing, elliptical, cycling, climbing, swimming, hiking, triathlon, aerobics, and trail running.

It offers a personal intelligent sports coach offering guidance to help you easily get through each exercise. General daily activities are also tracked. You can use the watch to track calories burned, floors climbed, steps taken. The smartwatch also monitors your heart rate. It will alert you if you are in a sedentary mode for too long. The floor monitoring works a bit odd as it mistakes an elevator ride for floor climbing.

The heart rate tracking feature works well. If the heart rate goes above or falls below the recommended level, the device will vibrate. Levels can be set based on the recommendation of the wearer’s doctor.

It seems like Huawei is trying to catch up with the ECG sensor of Apple. Unfortunately, it can’t be as advanced as the one from the Cupertino giant.

There is a TruSleep 2.0 feature to monitor your sleep. It will record the time you spend in light, deep sleep, and REM. It will also track your pulse, heart rate, and breathing quality.

This data is then used for sleep quality analysis using artificial intelligence.

A TreRelax feature records the variability of your heart rate as well as providing stress level monitoring. If the device detects that you are stressed, it will recommend you a breathing exercise to calm you down.

Huawei Watch GT 2 Battery

According to Huawei, the 455mAh battery of the Watch GT 2 can last two weeks with one full charge. That is for the 46mm model. With the 42mm model, the time is reduced to 7 days. But it all depends on how you use the device.

If you use the smartwatch moderately, you won’t have to charge it for around 10 days. For fitness enthusiasts with two hours of exercising per day, it can last around 5 days.

When the device’s battery is completely drained, a full charge takes approximately 1 hour and 22 minutes.
