Asus Zenfone 7 Pro ZS671KS Summary

ZenFone 6’s motorized flip camera makes its way to Asus’s latest handset – ZenFone 7 Pro but with more features and abilities to cater to the needs of selfie lovers.

Everything possible with the rear cameras, sharp telephoto, recording 8K videos, and wide-angle shots, are available for selfies, making the phone stands out on the market.

The phone also comes with a boost in terms of specifications, driving the price up a bit compared to its predecessor.

The phone is expected to be released in India on November 20, 2020

Display

Compared to the ZenFone 6, the display of ZenFone 7 is more colorful, brighter, bigger, and wider.

The latter features a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with an aspect ratio of 20:9 and a refresh rate of 90Hz. Asus has got the brightness on this phone right, which has made iPhone 11 Pro look a little dim.

There is nothing to complain about the brightness but the same can’t be said about the natural level of the colors. Sometimes colors pop too much they look weird. However, if you are a fan of high-energy AMOLED panels, the screen on ZenFone 7 Pro is right up your alley.

At this price point, it isn’t a surprise that ZenFone 7 Pro has a 90Hz refresh rate. However, with 200Hz touch sampling and one-millisecond response time, the phone still stands out for being responsive, snappy, and fluid, no matter which apps you are using.

Processor

Under the hood, ZenFone 7 Pro runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus, paired with 8GB of RAM and onboard storage of 256GB of UFS 3.1.

Its benchmark score is outshone by that of Asus ROG Phone 3 but that is understandable given the fact that the ZenFone 7 Pro has less RAM.

In tests when the phone is used to run Hill Climb Racer and Asphalt 9 Legends, it doesn’t get hot or runs into any kind of performance troubles.

ZenUI on the phone is bloat-free, neat, and usable, much like what we have with the ZenFone 6 and ROG Phone 3.

Some enhancements here include a quicker image preview loading and a more competent fingerprint sensor.

The phone also supports 5G, giving us the impression that it’s future-proof, but the feature does increase the price of the handset.

RAM

With 8GB of RAM and a powerful chipset, the phone can handle games really well with few issues. It does heat up a bit when being used for long hours but the temperature will never reach the threshold where it becomes hard to bear.

Battery

Asus is quite vocal about the improvement of battery life on the ZenFone 7 Pro, not something you can see every day but rather in the long run.

The highlight of this battery saving scheme is the inclusion of a slow-charge option, which charges the phone to 80% when you plug it in at night, and right before you schedule to wake up, it fills in the rest.

Some other features are shutting down apps to prevent them from auto-starting and limiting apps’ background activities.

With the concern over battery life in mind, Asus doesn’t add wireless charging ability to the ZenFone 7 Pro but to make up for that, we have wired fast charger out of the box, which enables the phone to top up to 60% in 35 minutes and to full in 90%.

Under moderate use, users can expect two-day use with the phone. However, throw in some gaming sessions, photo-taking, and video calls, and the battery will take a bad hit. Under heavy use, the phone might have only 5% left when you go to bed at night.

Camera

When it comes to selfie, Asus ZenFone 7 Pro is the best on the market, period. If you like to take picture of yourself very much, the phone comes with tons of modes, features, and abilities to help you get creative with your photos. This is made possible thanks to Asus’s decision to utilize the motorized mechanism to turn rear cameras into selfie snappers.

The camera setup consists of a 64MP Sony IMX686 primary lens with an aperture of f/1.8, optical image stabilization, and the ability to record 8K video, a 12MP ultra-wide snapper, and an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and optical image stabilization.

With this setup, the features you will get include 4K video at 120FPS, 4K time-lapse video recording, motion tracking, and auto-panorama.

That sounds like a long list of options to choose from and to make things clear, you get all of them for selfies. Plus, the results are dramatic. Edge detection is excellent, colors are vibrant, and exposure is good.

The phone also allows you to shoot 8K videos and ultra-wide shots, something not many other phones can offer.

The flip mechanism has had an upgrade to make it tougher, more powerful, and faster. It does need periodic calibrations but according to Asus, the module can handle 100 flips a day for five years, meaning it’s twice as durable as that of ZenFone 6.

The module is a success when it comes to engineering and it does allow some very interesting features.

Auto panorama is spot on with seamless stitching and a wide scale. Users may have to spend some time getting used to the adjustable angle but once they get the hang of it, they can get really creative with the shots they take.

The performance of wide-angle and standard lenses are consistent with pictures taken by them bearing similar dynamic range. However, with 3x zoom, shots may look a little drab.

The phone will tell you to move back to get closer for a better shot although the final shots are focused correctly.

Overall, users will have a fun time exploring ZenFore 7 Pro’s selfie cameras and what they can do. However, to offer a versatile camera setup, Asus has had to make some sacrifices, including the weight of the phone and the water resistance ability.

However, it’s no denying that Asus ZenFone 7 Pro is one of the best choices for selfie addicts.
