Apple Watch Edition Series 6 Summary

While the Apple Watch is one of the most standout wearables on the market, users are still waiting for Apple to make another leap forward in terms of design and functionality. The blood oxygen monitor is a newly added feature but it isn't something that users may find interesting. The Apple Watch 6 doesn’t seem to have that much of a change compared to its predecessor, the Apple Watch 5.

The key upgrades include the new S6 chipset, a blood oxygen monitor allowing you to see how much O2 is pumping in your system, and better battery life.

There is an altimeter that can track your elevation. And according to Apple, it can track to the nearest foot. The screen can fire up to 2.5 times brighter when it is used in strong sunlight.

The device runs WatchOS 7 with brand new hand-washing tracking along with sleep tracking as well as more watch faces.

Apple Watch 6 Release Date

Apple officially released the Apple Watch 6 on Friday, September 18. Consumers who are interested in the device can purchase it online or from the Apple Store.

Apple Watch 6 Price

The price of the device depends on whether you go for the cellular edition or the GPS-only version.

The prices for the GPS-only version are $399 for the 40mm version and $429 for the 44mm one.

The prices for the cellular version are $499 for the 40mm version and $529 for the 44mm one.

Apple Watch 6’s Blood Oxygen Monitoring

The blood oxygen sensor is the key upgrade of the new Apple Watch 6. It helps monitor how much oxygen pumping around in your body, thus giving an indication of underlying medical issues or alert your environmental factors.

And it is simple to use. All you have to do is open the Blood Oxygen app. While doing this, you can’t move your wrist in 15 seconds. As the app counts down, you will have a result showing the percentage of your blood oxygen.

The readings for blood oxygen are fine. However, it will be left unused unless you are going to high altitude or have any reason to have to check your respiratory rate.

Apple Watch 6 Design

In terms of design, Apple has made no changes to the Watch 6. It still has the same dimensions as other Apple wearables including the 4 and 5. For sizes, you have two options, the 40mm or the 4mm one. The screen is larger than that of the first Apple Watch and the Watch 3.

The heart rate monitor is still on the back. The digital spinning crown is on the side. And the power button is below. The taptic engine is still there, creating the tapping feeling whenever there is a new notification.

Because of environmental concerns, Apple announced that the USB power adaptor would be removed from Apple Watch boxes from now on.

This means that Apple Watch customers when buying the new smartwatches won’t receive the device plugging into the wall. However, the custom Apple Watch cable will still come with the box.

With the Apple Watch 6, Apple adds in the (PRODUCT) Red color, which is such a vibrant and striking addition.

There are a few new colors being offered including a gold stainless steel case, a new blue aluminum case, and a black graphite variant.

Apple Watch 6 Display

While the display is still the same OLED tech that Apple has been used for years, the always-on display feature that was first introduced on the Watch 5 is also there.

Compare to the Apple Watch SE with which you still need to slightly raise your wrist or tap the watch to see the time, the always-on display feature allows you to just glance down.

The display of the Apple Watch 6 is supposed to be 2.5 times brighter than other watches’ display.

WatchOS 7

Because of environmental concerns, Apple announced that the USB power adaptor would be removed from Apple Watch boxes from now on.

This means that Apple Watch customers when buying the new smartwatches won’t receive the device plugging into the wall. However, the custom Apple Watch cable will still come with the box.

According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, this move might include upcoming iPhones. In October, apple may organize a live-stream event for its new iPhone where it could announce that no USB power adapter will be included in the box.

The WatchOS 7 will also be released alongside the new smartwatch. The biggest changes include capabilities to change watch faces and share those you make. There will be new programming to track your sleep.

A wealth of new bands were announced as well, including a “Solo Loop” band style. There isn’t any buckle or clasp on this band. And it is made of silicone.

You will have to stretch the band a little when putting it on and taking it off. There are twelve different size options. To find your size, there is a printable tool that you can access on Apple’s website.

The price of the Solo Loop is $49.00. It comes in Deep Navy, Pink Citrus, Ginger, Cyprus Green, Black, (PRODUCT) RED, and White.

In the same style, there is also a “Braided Solo Loop.” However, it is made using recycled yarn. At $99.00 the strap comes in five colors including Inverness Green, Atlantic Blue, (PRODUCT) RED, Pink Punch, and Charcoal.
