ZTE Nubia, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, has just teased the launch of its flexible phone as a confirmation of its presence at MWC 2019, which will take place in Barcelona.
The device is called nubia-α (alpha), which the brand first unveiled in 2018, during IFA Berlin. However, at that time, ZTE only showcased a useless prototype which did not work. This time, it seems that the company is ready for a global launch.
One of the unique selling points of the nubia-α is that users can actually wear the phone on their wrists. This is because the phone has an extended curved OLED touch screen, using Nubia’s propriety technology for flexible screen called Flex. Also, the handset features a camera on its front as well as buttons and microphones on both sides of the phone.
On the back of the nubia-α, there is a heart rate sensor and charging pins. Users can choose to wear either a Black metal strap or a Golden one. For now, ZTE hasn’t revealed anything about the phone price, specs, or availability.

At the Mobile World Congress 2019 (MWC 2019), the world will get to see the shift to the foldable phone of the entire industry, particularly with Huawei and Samsung as front players while others like ZTE Nubia also set their own games. Besides, the Chinese phone maker Xiaomi is working to launch its own foldable smartphone too.
Previously, ZTE also tried its luck with foldable smartphones. In particular, at MWC 2018, the company introduced the ZTE Axon M, featuring two separate screens joint by a hinge between them. According to reports, Nubia is also developing a phone with dual displays. A recent video posted online suggests the phone’s back may have a colored screen, which could be an update to the Nubia Z18, perhaps named Nubia Z18S.
