Xiaomi is the next in line in the smartphone design competition with Samsung. Ever since its Galaxy Note Edges’s launch in 2014 with one curved side, the tech giant has adapted this design to all of its flagship models like the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge that curves along its length.
This idea caught on like wildfire among smartphone manufacturers as the design appears on many of their products. However, with its latest announcement about a phone that has all four edges curved, it seems that Xiaomi is aiming at defeating Samsung on its own field.
According to what this Chinese firm showed at the WIPO (short for World Intellectual Property Office), their future phone will have both the frame and the display curved. However, the diagrams found by LetsGoDigital do not have any front camera. What we can make out for now is that the phone in theory from Xiaomi will have no such camera at all or it will be under the display. However, there are twin rear cameras, a LED flash component, and a Type-C port at the bottom.
Showing a design is not enough of concrete evidence to ensure that Xiaomi will actually introduce such a smartphone, but we can hope that for the sake of keeping its presence, the company will release one to answer to Vivo APEX 2019 and Meizu Zero, or at least manufacturing a limited edition.
While such four-edge-curved smartphones’ future is still in doubt, a more realistic debut from Xiaomi is the Mi 9, which is planned to be out this month. It sports a triple rear camera arrangement, a 27W support for a faster charge, and a fingerprint sensor. There might be a 5G variant of this new model as Xiaomi has made public its very first 5G smartphones. The projected price tag for this Mi 9 is about Rs. 31,600.
