The popular Xiaomi Mi A series has long been widely known for a lot of reasons and one of the most prominent reasons is the stock Android version that runs on those devices. Being a part of the Android One program also promises faster security patches and software updates. Now, the successor to the Xiaomi Mi A2, the Mi A3 along with the Mi A3 Lite is said to come out in the second half of this year. They are speculated to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 700 series SoC.
The mentioned speculation comes from a tweet by Mishaal Rahman who its Editor-in-Chief at XDA Developers. In his tweet, Mishaal said that he speculated based on the source code information that was available to him. The three upcoming Xiaomi phones with the code names of 'Cosmos_sprout', 'Pyxis', and 'Bamboo_sprout' are reportedly in development, and they will run on the latest SoCs in the Snapdragon 700 series. Previous phones in the Xiaomi series also carried the naming system 'Sprout' which means these three new handsets might be the next Xiaomi Mi A3 phones. On the other handset, the 'Pyxis' model seems to quite mysterious at the moment.
It is quite surprising that these mobile phones will run the Snapdragon 700 series chipsets because previous Xiaomi Mi A phones were powered by the Snapdragon 600 series SoCs. While the Mi A1 packs a Snapdragon 625 chipset, the Mi A2 is powered by a Snapdragon 660 SoC. While the Snapdragon 600 series is generally used on the mid-range offerings, the Snapdragon 700-series is mostly used on a bit more premium handsets. This might mean that the Xiaomi Mi A3 will come with a higher price.
