Samsung Galaxy S8, S9 Battery Drain Problem After Android 9 Pie Update

The South Korean phone maker, Samsung began rolling out the stable Android Pie update for its Galaxy S8 and S9 duo at the beginning of this year, which brings One UI interface to the flagship predecessors among a large number of new features. However, the latest update has brought a heavy battery drainage issue for some users of Galaxy S8 and S9 duo. The issue causes these phones’ battery life to go down even when the phones are idling and reduces the screen time as well.

Samsung rolled out this update for its Galaxy S9 and S9+ in January 2019 before the release of the update for its Galaxy S8 duo one month later. This update offered new Samsung Keyboard, new Settings menu, One UI and other various changes, except for the Android security patch for February. However, after installing this update, users have to face a battery drain problem and have reported to the Samsung forum through an application named Samsung Members to vent their issues.

Battery drain issue has been reported by Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S8 users

Users could spot battery drain issue reports for all aforementioned flagships and hear several reports from their colleagues and friends with their devices. In addition, the Galaxy Note 9 installed the update like the S9 duo is also affected by this issue. Speaking about the sub-optimal performance of battery following the update, the screen time has gone down significantly.

In addition, users affected by the problem reported that their devices continue to have a sudden battery drop with a higher rate even when their phones are idling. Some users mentioned the problem did not happen in the beta build of Android Pie and only occurred after installing the stable update. Samsung has not officially acknowledged this battery drain problem and released a fix for it.
