Sony Xperia 1 vs. LG G8 ThinQ vs. Galaxy S10+: Specifications, Design & Features
Sony Xperia 1 is another flagship phone from Sony. The phone maker goes for a unique feature and design on the handset. LG also does the same with its new LG G8 ThinQ, which comes with some cool features that have not been seen in other flagship devices.
Xperia 1 is the first phone to sport a 21:9 display
The Xperia 1 comes with a very tall display with an aspect ratio of 21:9. It’s the world’s first phone to have such a tall aspect ratio, and the company claims that it can provide users a better immersive experience. The phone comes with thin bezels on both sides, and there are also small chins on both the top as well as bottom of the handset. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S10+ comes with a punch-hole on its display for the selfie cameras, and the LG G8 ThinQ has a wide notch on top of its screen.
LG G8 ThinQ
LG goes for the Crystal Sound OLED tech instead of the earpiece to produce sound via the screen. On the front, the LG flagship also comes with a Time-of-Flight camera to detect the hand gestures that can trigger certain functions. The feature is called Air Motion, and it’s quite a unique one.
On the other hand, the Xperia 1 sports a 6.5-inch OLED display with 4K resolution, HDR10 support, and Gorilla Glass 6 on both the front and the rear. The Galaxy S10+ packs a slightly smaller 6.4-inch Quad-HD+ panel, whereas the LG G8 ThinQ ships with a 6.1-inch Quad-HD+ OLED display.
All of these three smartphones come packed the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 855 SoC. Sony offers the Xperia 1 in variants with up to 6GB RAM/128GB internal storage which is expandable via a microSD slot. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S10+ packs a massive 12GB of RAM/1TB of internal storage, and the LG G8 ThinQ has similar options to the Xperia 1 with up to 6GB of RAM/128GB of storage. The S10+ is clearly leading in this aspect with a double amount of RAM and way higher amount of storage.
For the battery, the Xperia 1 has the battery with the lowest capacity of 3,300 mAh battery, while the G8 ThinQ is backed by a bigger 3,500mAh battery. The Galaxy S10+’s battery has the highest capacity with 4,100 mAh.
The last aspect we want to compare is their cameras. The S10+ sports a triple camera system on the rear, comprising of a 12MP main sensor with OIS and dual aperture. The main sensor is coupled with a 12MP telephoto lens and a 16MP wide-angle sensor. Up front, Samsung goes for a dual camera setup including a 10MP main sensor and an 8MP secondary sensor for depth sensing.
The LG G8 ThinQ comes in two versions: one with dual cameras and the other with triple cameras. The rear cameras are a 16MP main wide-angle camera, 12MP secondary sensor, and a 12MP telephoto camera. On the front, there is an 8MP sensor for taking selfies and video calling.
The Xperia 1, on the other hand, also sports a triple camera system on the rear, comprising of a 12MP main camera with a telephoto lens, a 12MP camera with a super wide-angle lens and a third 12MP RGB sensor. The phone is capable of recording 4K videos in an aspect ratio of 21:9. Similar to the LG G8 ThinQ, it also boasts a single 8MP on the front for selfies and video calls.
Sony Xperia 1 vs. LG G8 ThinQ vs. Galaxy S10+: Final thoughts
You can clearly see that the Galaxy S10+ is winning in some aspects such as the battery, camera setup, and RAM & memory configurations as well. While Sony and LG only offer up to 6GB RAM and 128GB storage on their flagships, Samsung already increases the amount to 12GB RAM and 1TB storage. However, not everyone needs to use that much RAM and storage.
Additionally, the Sony Xperia 1 and LG G8 ThinQ also have their own strengths. While the Sony handset features a very tall aspect ratio, the LG G8 ThinQ comes with a unique feature called Air Motion which will recognize users’ hand gestures to trigger some particular functions.
Moreover, the prices of the Xperia 1 and LG G8 ThinQ will also likely be lower than those of the Galaxy S10+. Yes, it offers much more RAM and storage, but I would say only a small number of people need that much.
