One of the highlights of the Galaxy S10+, the ultra-wide camera, has been used by one of its competitors way back in 2016.

One of the highlights of the Samsung Galaxy S10+ is the ultrawide camera that makes taking pictures a lot more fun than with other smartphones. Its triple camera is comprised of an ultrawide shooter, a zoomed camera, and a normal one. This kind of setup opens a whole new world for the S10+'s users.
This new feature sets Samsung apart from its competitors, including Apple and other Android smartphones, which utilize a regular camera with the support of zoomed lens.
However, Samsung is not the pioneer in using this kind of camera. In fact, LG’s smartphones have been sporting it since 2016. Both the LG G5, debuted in April 2016 and the LG V20, released 5 months later, have an ultrawide camera as one of their selling points.
Most people now associate ultrawide camera with Samsung S10 but it should be LG V40 that take the title of the smartphone that offers the most when it comes to cameras. The truth is, a similar setup was used by LG on their LG V40 long before Samsung released the S10+.
LG’s camera set is even more capable than that of Samsung. The V40 features a secondary ultrawide angle selfie camera and a focal length of 21mm, which allows users to take wider photos than with the S10+ focal length of 26mm.
The S10+’s selfie camera ranks lower than that of the V40 and the Pixel 3. Only one of the dual cameras actually does the photo-taking job. The other one is for deep sensing, which is handy in portrait mode. Some may argue that the second one is a total waste as it does nothing significant.
LG will release its G8 in the next few months. This smartphone also sports a triple camera setup similar to that of the S10+ with one is the ultrawide camera.
