The beginning of the foldable smartphone trend in general and the Galaxy Fold, in particular, has met many obstacles. But doesn’t stop Samsung from releasing a new model as quite a few rumors about the successor of Galaxy Fold 2 have been shared online. According to SamMobile, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 will have a smaller memory version of 256GB along with the 512GB version to lower the price, making it more accessible to users.

There is still much debate about the design of this product. Last year, Bloomberg reported that Samsung had developed three foldable smartphone models, including a folding smartphone (Galaxy Fold), a more compact model (later released as Galaxy Z Flip), and another device with a large screen that folds out like Huawei Mate X - and will be called Samsung Galaxy Fold 2.
But the publication has now dismissed the old rumor, saying it would continue to use the design of the first Galaxy Fold, but with a smaller notch. This screen will be made larger, from 7.7 to 8 inches compared to 7.3 inches of the first version, most likely support the S Pen stylus like the Note series.
XDA-Developers said that it will not even use a notch on the screen, but will try to put the selfie camera under the screen similar to the prototypes of OPPO and Xiaomi. This technology has not yet been put into practice, although it has appeared in some sample devices. As for the rear camera, the Fold 2 will reuse the system of the S20 Plus including the 64MP telephoto camera.
However, for users, the most important detail is the device’s durability. The first Galaxy Fold, after being launched for the first time, was immediately recalled because many users experienced screen damage due to dust and dirt getting into the display.

With the Galaxy Z Flip, the company has also solved the problem by equipping ultra-thin glass, but the durability is still not comparable to regular smartphones on its price range. It is still unclear what else the company could do to increase the durability of the screen because there is no rumor about that so far.
Finally on the launch date: in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, users will have to wait until Q2 or 3 years to see this product. SamMobile said that Samsung will launch Fold 2 at the Galaxy Note event that usually takes place in August.
