A new offering from Xiaomi's sub-brand was just announced in China, the Redmi 7, packing a Snapdragon 632 SoC, 4,000mAh cell, and a dual rear camera setup.

We have already seen the Redmi 7 for quite a while in many leaks and rumors as well as on the TENAA listing. However, Xiaomi’s sub-brand now finally unveiled the handset in China. As expected, the Redmi 7 was announced alongside the Redmi Note 7 Pro. While the latter was already launched in India, the former’s launch date in the country remains unknown for now. It is also the first phone in the company’s budget series to come with a glass polycarbonate body.

Redmi offers the Redmi 7 from CNY 699 (around Rs. 7,140) for the base option with 2GB of RAM/16GB of storage, and CNY 799 (around Rs. 8,160) for the variant with 4GB of RAM/64GB of storage. It will come a total of three colour variants, including Red, Blue, and Black and it will be up for sale in Xiaomi’s home country from 26 March.

The latest budget offering from Xiaomi is powered by a Snapdragon 632 SoC which includes four efficiency cores and four heavy cores. It also packs 2GB/4GB RAM as well as 16GB up to 64GB of internal storage which is expandable via a microSD slot. Powering the phone will be a 4,000 mAh cell via a micro-USB port. Up front, there is a 6.26-inch HD+ panel with a water-drop notch on top and covered by Gorilla Glass 5. The Chinese phone company also opts for a p2i water-resistant coating to this handset to protect the phone from water, rain, and others.

In the imaging department, the new Xiaomi handset is equipped with a dual camera system on the rear, including a 12MP primary sensor with an f/2.9 aperture and 1.25µm pixel size and 2MP secondary depth sensor. Up front, it sports an 8MP selfie camera housing on the notch with support for Face ID feature.

Other notable features of the handset include an audio jack, fingerprint sensor mounted on the rear, and an IR blaster. Xiaomi also offers 18-month warranty for this device (only in China for now).
