Qualcomm has just released a new mid-range 5G processor model of the Snapdragon 7 series, called Snapdragon 750G. This chip offers many improvements in CPU performance when compared to other chipsets in the same series, such as Snapdragon 768G and Snapdragon 765G.
The Snapdragon 750G 5G (SM7225) is manufactured on the 8nm process, featuring an upgraded CPU architecture with a maximum clock speed of 2.2GHz. It has 8 cores in total, including 2 high-performance Kryo 570 cores (based on Cortex-A77) and 6 energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores.
Theoretically, Qualcomm's new chipset has even better performance than the Snapdragon 768G and Snapdragon 765G, which use the older and weaker Kryo 475 cores (based on Cortex-A76).
Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 750G is 20% more efficient than the Snapdragon 730G, while the integrated Adreno 619 GPU also offers a 10% performance increase over the Adreno 618 inside the Snapdragon 730G. In addition, it also features Snapdragon Elite Gaming technology, allowing for faster and smoother gaming performance.
The Snapdragon 750G’s AI hardware can deliver up to 4.0 TOPS (Trillion Operations per Second - trillion operations per second) and is powered by Qualcomm's 5th generation AI Engine, 20% more performance than the Snapdragon 730G.
This chip uses Snapdragon X52 5G modem, which supports mmWave 5G and Sub-6GHz. In addition, it also supports Quick Charge 4.0+ fast charging, compatible with USB Power Delivery, 4K HDR video recording, 192MP camera, FHD + 120Hz or QHD 60Hz display, Wi-Fi 6, and up to 12GB of LPDDR4x 2133 MHz RAM.
According to the report, Xiaomi will be the first manufacturer to launch a smartphone running a Snapdragon 750G chipset. Devices using this chip are expected to go on sale in the first half of 2021.
