At OnePlus launch event held in London, the company spent most of the time presenting the OnePlus 7 Pro, its first ever ultra-premium smartphone. Meanwhile, the OnePlus 7 did not get to stay in the spotlight for long. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth your attention. The phone has more power, much faster storage compared to the OnePlus 6T and the same primary camera as the OnePlus 7 Pro.
Its price is more affordable, which is a plus point considering OnePlus fans have always been attracted to the company’s bang-for-buck policy. OnePlus 7 launch date is expected to be on Jun 04, 2019.
Same design and same screen?
There is not much of a difference in design between the OnePlus 7 phone and its predecessor, the 6T.
In the front, there’s an AMOLED full HD+ panel which on the top rooms a small dew-drop notch. The only difference is its earpiece.
The phone’s dual speaker system is the same as the one in the OnePlus 7 Pro. The speaker has a longer earpiece grill, which allows more space for the sound to go through and for the loudspeaker to join with the speaker located at the bottom edge to create the Dolby stereo effect.
The cover at the back of the phone is similar to the OnePlus 7 Pro. The Mirror Grey color has an attractive glossy finish. It creates a different vibe compared to the previous two generations’ black glossy finish.
The phone’s screen is as vibrant and punchy as the other OnePlus phones, given it being used in controlled lighting. However, with only over 400 pixels per inch on a 6.41-inch screen, it’s understandable when it does not have the same detail and sharpness as the 7 Pro or the Galaxy S10 of Samsung.
OnePlus 7 features a USB-C port and no headphone jack at the bottom of the screen. On the right side houses the sliding toggle that is the phone maker’s trademark and the power button. On the left, there is a volume rocker.
Relentless Speed
OnePlus has always been known for its speed and fluidity. So it is the reason why its phones have always housed the latest Snapdragon processor. That explains why the OnePlus 7 is equipped with the Snapdragon 855 processor which would ensure the phone’s quick and ultra-smooth transitions and animations.
Graphically intense games can be handled with no stutter or lag. Of course, it is no match when compared with the 90Hz refresh rate of the Pro version.
Another element, according to OnePlus, also contribute to its product’s speed is UFS 3.0, which could boost the speed of almost anything, from opening apps to downloading and transferring files.
The phone’s storage specs range from 128GB to 256GB with its RAM configurations range from 6GB to 8GB.
Rather than having the 6T McLaren Edition’s 30W fast-charging tech, OnePlus 7 has gone with the 20W fast-charging tech and a 3,700mAH battery.
Enhanced Oxygen
OnePlus 7 is powered by the company’s Oxygen OS platform. The difference between OnePlus and other Chinese phone makers is that its Android skin is extremely lightweight and customizable.
New features such as Zen Mode is added, which encourages users to take a break from their phones for 20 minutes. This new feature will blocks all functions of the phone, except for the camera, outgoing emergency calls, and incoming calls. And it’s not possible to cancel it once you have turned the feature on.
The usual customization is still there, which allows you to change your overall theme to a dark one or modify the accent colors.
Additionally, there is a Reading Mode for e-book reading sessions, which will turn the screen grey as well as dropping the refresh rate.
The new gaming mode allows users to have greater control of notifications. However, the Fnatic mode which shuts off those little notifications entirely and prioritizes data usage for gaming is only available in the OnePlus 7 Pro.
There’s also a screen recording option which lets users record internal as well as external audio. There are no limits in terms of recording length. Also, you can pause and resume the recording at any time.
The phone comes with two-fold biometric security, a face recognition feature, and an in-screen fingerprint scanner.
All the megapixels
Although the OnePlus 7 mobile is not equipped with the triple camera system like the Pro version, it does come with a dual camera system. It has the Pro’s 48-megapixel sensor to pair with a secondary sensor for additional data and depth information for sharpness. Its primary camera is the new IMX 586 from Sony with an f/1.7 lens. The camera is outfitted with electronic and optical stabilization, which can take good photos with lots of details in both good light and low light condition.
The phone’s 48-megapixel camera uses a technology to combine together four pixels to create one larger pixel, which in return produce 12-megapixel automatic shots. If you want to, you can still shoot in 48. But you will have to select it and shoot in Pro mode manually.
The secondary camera has a 5MP depth sensor for better background blurring, and 4K video shooting is also available. The 16MP Oneplus 7 front camera can take very sharp selfies.
The phone’s newly enhanced algorithms and Ultra HDR tech, you can take sharp, dynamic images with increasing detail and color vibrancy.
Final Verdict
In every possible way, the OnePlus 7 is a better version of its predecessor, the OnePlus 6T. While they almost share an identical look, OnePlus 7’s internals is upgraded with a better camera, faster performance, better sound, and an affordable price.
The question here is, what kind of customers that the product is aimed at? For short, the OnePlus 7 is for those OnePlus 3/3T/5 users who want to upgrade their devices after a few years of using or those who wish to have a phone with fast performance without the hefty Rs. 32,999 price tag of the Pro model.
