Smartphones are not just for browsing the Internet, texting, and making calls anymore. Nowadays, people expect it to take wonderful pictures as well. So whether they want it or not, phone makers still have to join the battle to improve the camera department. Google, the company has been going around with one sensor only for years, has to enhance all kind of photo software for its smartphone.
It has been nearly two years since Huawei gained the leading spot in specs and reviews until OnePlus 7 Pro made its appearance. So let’s see which model can beat the other to be the best in the camera department.
Specs
If you think you can come to a conclusion by comparing the two phones’ specs, you should recalibrate your expectations. They are identical in almost every way, so there is no point going through them.
Both the Huawei P30 Pro and OnePlus 7 Pro have top-notch processors, which are the Kirin 980 and Snapdragon 855 respectively. They both have RAM ranging from 6 to 8 GB and 128 to 256 GB for the inbuilt one.

They seem different in numbers but not in a way that can make a difference an average user could feel. You cannot expand the memory of OnePlus 7 Pro, but Huawei P30 Pro takes Huawei-made nanoSD card only, so they basically mean the same thing for most users. There is no reverse charging or wireless charging on the Huawei smartphone, but these two features are not the key selling points for most people, at least for now.
Overall, you will get similar performance with these two phones.
Screen

OnePlus has gone big with the screen this time. When Huawei took a step back at the resolution, the other company does the exact opposite. It invests in lots of effort and money to give users a better display. Users of the P30 Pro have to settle with FHD+ screen whereas if they purchase the other one, they will have QHD+. Apart from the resolution, the 7 Pro has a refresh rate of 90 Hz, giving users a feeling of better responsiveness.
Cameras

Now comes what we have been waiting for, the cameras themselves. Lots of reviews said that Huawei P30 Pro is still the champion. What makes the smartphone stands out is the 8-megapixel periscope-style telephoto camera, but the 20-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera is an excellent addition. The bokeh effect is further complemented by the 3D ToF sensor, which can also be used for AR experience.
Huawei invested a lot in the camera department, but reality has shown that the gap is not as big as the company has hoped for. Its smartphone does surpass that of OnePlus but is not by a large margin. In some certain occasions, it is better than the smartphone from Huawei and even the Galaxy S10.
There is still room for improvement for OnePlus 7 Pro in the ability to zoom, the bokehs, and night mode. But for that price, the smartphone still has its own pride over the more expensive ones.
Software

Google is a living proof that megapixel and hardware are not everything. It has been able to make do with a 12.2-megapixel camera and produced pictures with quality that can rival smartphones with more impressive specs. Overall, its phone is a perfect combination of competent software and hardware.
Under the hood, both phones are powered by operating systems made based on Android. OxygenOS from OnePlus is very close to what you have with Android than EMUI from Huawei. Rumor has it that if you go for OnePlus, you will get updates faster. Huawei might be the market leader here, but OnePlus is hot on its heels.
Price

Huawei has the leading spot when it comes to cameras, but when you compare their prices, OnePlus can quickly put its rival to shame. So far, there has not been any other smartphone that can provide similar performance with that low price.
Some people may say that the disparity in price gives users more useful features, but when you compare them, most of the differences are not exactly something users cannot live without.
With the Huawei P30 Pro, you have reverse and wireless charging, but admittedly, not everyone needs those. The smartphone gives you better cameras on paper, but OnePlus 7 Pro is right behind.
The IP ratings might provide assurance, but the phone from OnePlus has survived several tests without them.
In A Nutshell: Samsung And Google
When talking about cameras, the Huawei P30 Pro is definitely the champion. However, not everyone takes this feature as the essential requirements when they are on the market for a new phone. OnePlus 7 Pro features enough power to steal the limelight from anyone, even the proud smartphone from Huawei.
If you expand the comparing range to a few other models, things start to get more complicated. For iPhone fans, there will not be a comparison in the first place. For Android, Samsung Galaxy S10 5G and Google Pixel 3 are two potential rivals. The only problem with the former is the fact that its key selling point will not make sense to you at least in the next few years.
The main reason people go for the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL is that they are assured of pure experience with Android; even though these two offer amazing photos. If that is exactly what you want, a piece of good news is the Pixel 4 is on its way already.

Overall, the OnePlus 7 Pro is a prominent candidate to be the best of the year 2019 for its sum of features. But when it comes to cameras alone, it must settle with the second place after the Galaxy S10 5G; however, the margin is quite small here.
OnePlus 7 Pro features an excellent screen and other specs that people may expect to appear on flagship models only, making it the best value for money for now. There are seven months left this year, and we will wait to see if there is anything that can dethrone it as a bang for your bucks.
