After iFixit made public their iPhone 12 Mini teardown, it’s now clear what Apple has sacrificed in the name of size.

The battery is definitely smaller, an 8.57Wh compared to a 10.78Wh on the iPhone 12. However, this power cell is still bigger than that of the iPhone SE. There are more shrunken parts you might want to know about.

iFixit pointed out that the Taptic Engine on the iPhone 12 Mini is 25% smaller than the motor on the iPhone 12. The speakers also have a more compact size. The ambient light sensor appears to have been hidden away.

No space has been wasted on the iPhone 12 Mini. The teardown showed that the speakers and the Taptic Engine fit snugly, leaving no room left for a headphone jack.

The teardown also points out the difference between the phone released in the US and in other countries. For example, the squares near the camera module might be the mmWave 5G antennas.

The small body of the iPhone 12 Mini won’t prevent DIY enthusiasts from trying to replace the battery or the screen. The main concern here is the glass housing as if it breaks, you have no other choice but to replace the entire body.

Apple has clearly made some major sacrifices to be able to fit the A14 Bionic chip and 5G into a body this small. But apparently, it doesn’t affect the repairability of the phone.
