Apple's iPhone 11 is the best-selling phone model in the first half of this year, and is also the most popular smartphone in 2020, according to a report from market research firm Omdia.
The key factor for the iPhone 11's success is probably its attractive starting price, up to $50 cheaper than the iPhone XR, despite coming with significant improvements in the hardware department. According to a report from Omdia, thanks to these improvements, Apple’s iPhone sales will still rise sharply by 2020, despite the crisis from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The second most popular smartphone model in 2020 is Galaxy A51 (11.4 million units), followed by Redmi Note 8 (11 million units) and Redmi Note 8 Pro (10.2 million units).
A few other iPhone models also made the top 10 in the chart, including iPhone SE 2020 at fifth place (with 8.7 million units), followed by iPhone XR (8 million units), iPhone 11 Pro Max (7.7 million units), and finally the iPhone 11 Pro (6.7 million) in 10th place.
According to a report from Omdia, the number of iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max shipped in the first half of 2020 has decreased significantly compared to the iPhone XS and XS Max in the same period last year, but their rankings get better.
Last year's ranking featured four Samsung devices, but this year only there is only one Samsung phone makes its way to the list. It also means that none of Samsung's high-end smartphones make the top 10. They have been replaced by Xiaomi's Redmi line of phones, in which the number of devices Xiaomi has shipped has doubled compared to 2019.
