Huawei Nova 5 & Nova 5 Pro With Quad Rear Cameras Go Official

The Chinese phone maker Huawei has just announced the Huawei Nova 5 with Kirin 810 SoC & Nova 5 Pro with a Kirin 980 SoC.

Despite facing many difficulties from the US, Chinese giant Huawei still continues developing and launching new smartphones. The brand has just put an end to a series of rumors and leaks and announced its Huawei Nova 5 series. Huawei announced the series at a launch event in its home country China. The Nova 5 series comprises of Huawei Nova 5, Huawei Nova 5 Pro, and Huawei Nova 5i. While the Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro are two premium offerings, the Nova 5i will be launched in the mid-range segment. The key difference between the three phones is that while the Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro come with a water-drop notched display and an on-screen fingerprint reader, the Nova 5i has a hole-punch screen and a rear-mounted fingerprint reader. In addition, the standard Huawei Nova 5 is powered by the new Kirin 810 SoC which is said to be fabricated in the same 7nm process as the Snapdragon 855 SoC or Kirin 980 chipset.

Huawei Nova 5 & Nova 5 Pro: Availability & Price

The Huawei Nova 5 is retailed at CNY 2,799 (around Rs. 28,300) for the single variant with 8GB of RAM + 128GB of storage. The more premium Nova 5 Pro comes with a price of CNY 2,999 (around Rs. 30,300) for the 8GB RAM + 128GB of storage option, while the top-end option with 8GB RAM + 256GB storage will be priced at CNY 3,399 (around Rs. 34,500).

Moving to the availability, while the Nova 5 Pro is now available for pre-order from today. If you don’t want to pre-order, you can wait until 28 June to buy the two phones. The Nova 5 Pro is available in Midsummer Purple, Bright Black, Coral Orange, and Dilemma Forest. As for the standard Nova 5, it will not go on sale in the country until 20 July. Buyers can buy the Nova 5 in the same color variants as the Pro model, except for the Coral Orange.

Let’s start with the Huawei Nova 5. The phone sports a 6.39-inch OLED panel with FHD+ resolution and a punch hole on the front to accommodate a selfie camera. There is also a fingerprint scanner embedded under its display for biometric security. Ticking at its core is the new Kirin 810 octa-core processor that is fabricated in the same 7nm as the Snapdragon 855 and Kirin 980 SoC. The processor is coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

In terms of camera, the device sports quad cameras at the back, featuring a 48MP primary camera with an f/1.8 lens, a 16MP wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture, a 2MP telephoto sensor with f/2.4 aperture, and a 2MP macro lens. The cameras are also supported by AI algorithm for better quality. On the front, there is a 32M camera to handle selfie duties. The whole setup is powered by a 3,500 mAh battery with support for 50W fast charging which is claimed to charge the phone from 0 to 50 percent in just 15 minutes.

Moving to the Nova 5 Pro, it is powered by a Kirin 980 octa-core processor, and this is the only difference between the Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro. Software-wise, both phones ship with Huawei's EMUI 9.1 which is based on Android 9 Pie.
