Your phone is far from being the cleanest device you have. Most of us have been bringing it around for the best part of each day, putting it on restaurant tables, and holding it in our sweaty hands. These circumstances have been exposing our phone to lots of germs and dirt.
Cleaning your iPhone regularly will spare it from unhygienic elements as well as make it look nicer. And if you accidentally spill something on it, cleaning it right away will increase its chance of survival.
Although all iPhone models after the iPhone 7 are dust and waterproof, they are still in danger of liquid and debris making their way to the internal of the phone.
What you should use for the job is a soft and free-of-lint piece of cloth and then damp it just a little bit with water. There is no need to buy baby wipes or glass cleaner. If you want to be extra careful, wet the cloth with a mix of half water and half isopropyl alcohol.
For iPhone 7 And Later

Take the case off your phone
If you are plugging it to anything, remember to disconnect them all
Turn the phone off
Damp the cloth with water
Wipe the device and avoid using too much pressure
Clean the phone again with a piece of dry cloth
For iPhone 6 And Earlier

Models released before the iPhone 6 are not water-proof so users must be extra careful not to spill any liquid on them. The most vulnerable spots are the port for headphone. For these iPhones, a piece of dry cloth is advisable to keep your phone safe.
The rest of the process is the same with the instructions for iPhone 7 and later. If you feel needed, a little rubbing alcohol can be applied around the area where the SIM tray is. And again, remember to use a lint-free cloth for the job.
