2019 has been a turning point for Honor, Huawei’s sub-brand, with Honor 20 Pro and Honor View 20. The smartphone maker has long been associated with the budget segment but now, it can compete in a higher-end market.
Everything went so well for Honor until the US issued the ban on Huawei and it was caught in the fire. The situation now is that the US government has prohibited any US-based companies from doing business with Huawei, including Honor, with a 90-day reprieve.
Honor’s decision is to keep going with what it has planned and hope for a change. So that is why we have a global launch of the Honor 20. Malaysia, Germany, France, Russia, and the UK will get it this Friday at the price of RM 1,699, €499, RUB 27,990, and £399 respectively.
India, Italy, and the Netherlands will have the phone available on the 24th of June. Poland will have to wait for four more days for the release of Honor 20 while Spain will receive it last, at some point next month.
In China, Honor 20 reached one million sales in just two weeks after it was released. Users have lots of reasons to look forward to its launch date in India, an appealing design, top of the line Kirin 980 processor, and competent camera setup. Its side-mounted fingerprint sensor is more credible than most of the in-display fingerprint sensor smartphones have nowadays.
If it was not for the US ban, Honor 20 would be a wonderful deal for this year. When Huawei and the US have not shown any sign of settling the dispute, purchasing anything Huawei or Honor is risky. Outside of Chinese borders, we have everything to lose without the support for Android updates for Chrome, Keep, Gmail, Maps, and YouTube, all of which require Google’s Android license.
