If you wanted to find a good phone in the price range of under Rs. 7,000 a few years back, I would say it is impossible. However, the situation has been massively changed thanks to the aggressively pricing from Taiwanese and Chinese phone makers. Indian consumers no longer have to use laggy and nearly unusable phones as they now can purchase a much more decent phone with just a budget of around Rs. 7,000. There are many decent choices in the market and notably the Realme C2 and Redmi 7A joining our list of the best smartphones to buy in India for under Rs. 7,000.

Realme C2

Despite launching in India just around a year, former Oppo’s sub-brand Realme has been making a solid place in the Indian market. The Chinese company has launched some great value phones in the past year and it just announces the Realme C1 in the country.

The budget Realme C2 is offered in two options, including 2GB of RAM + 16GB of storage and 3GB of RAM + 32GB of storage. They are priced at Rs. 5,999 and Rs. 7,999, respectively. It will be up for sale from 15 May via e-commerce site Flipkart. According to Realme India’s CEO, Madhav Sheth, buyers can also get benefits that worth Rs. 5,300 which makes it practically free. As for color variant, buyers can choose between Diamond Blue and Diamond Black color variants.

The handset sports a 6.1-inch HD display with a water-drop notch on top and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. Powering the phone is an octa-core MTK Helio P22 SoC clocked at 2.0GHz built on the 12nm processor. As for software, it will run the latest Android 9.0 Pie with Oppo’s Color OS 6.0 on top. The UI on the handset is claimed to be ad-free.

On the imaging front, the phone sports dual cameras on the rear, which are a 13MP primary camera and 2MP secondary camera. On the front, there is a 5MP AI camera for taking selfies and video calling. It also has support for Chrome Boost and slow-mo video recording @ 480p & 80fps. Powering the phone is a 4,000mAh cell with no fast charging support. For unlocking the phone, Realme goes for a Facial Recognition feature instead of a fingerprint scanner.

Asus ZenFone Lite L1

Asus has been getting the reputation of launching great phones in the budget segment that offer great value for their low price tags. Some downsides of this handset are its low amount of RAM which may slow it down some time, especially when you run multiple apps in the background.

The phone is currently offered in a sole memory configuration with 2GB RAM / 16GB of internal storage for just Rs. 4,999. There are two color options for you to choose from, which are Black and Gold.

Similar to other phones in its price range, the handset sports a 5.45 IPS LCD panel with an HD+ (1,440 x 720p) resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. Powering the handset is a Snapdragon 430 SoC paired with 2GB RAM/16GB of storage which can be further expanded up to 512GB via a microSD card slot. Unfortunately, it runs on the dated Android 8.0 Oreo with no upcoming update to Android 9.0 Pie.

In terms of camera, it is no different from other budget phones as it features a single 13MP rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture and a 5MP selfie camera with f/2.4 aperture. Keeping the phone running is a 3,000mAh battery under the hood.

Redmi 7A

In the last couple of years, Chinese phone maker Xiaomi has been disrupting the phone industry by offering many value-for-money smartphones. With a limited budget, you can still purchase decent smartphones that can still be enough for your daily tasks.

Redmi 7A is another phone that continues the legacy as it offers decent performance for as low as Rs. 4,999. The device features an old design with a relatively thick bezel at the top for a selfie camera and a sizeable chin at the bottom as well. Still, it looks pretty nice for its affordable price tag. Its display also offers you decent viewing angles and color reproduction.

During our time with the phone, we found that its performance was pretty much the same as other devices in the price range. It ran quite smooth with occasional delays when launching an app. However, it might stutter when you switch between apps. As for camera performance, you shouldn't expect too much from the Redmi 7A. It delivers decent photos in day-light conditions, but you might be disappointed when taking photos at night.

The key specs of the phone include Snapdragon 439 SoC, 2GB of RAM, up to 32GB of storage, and 4,000mAh battery with 10W charging tech.

It is currently available in India in two variants - 2GB RAM / 16GB storage and 2GB RAM / 32GB storage. They are priced at Rs. 4,999 and Rs. 5,700, respectively.

Redmi Go

After launching two Android One phones dubbed Xiaomi Mi A1 and Xiaomi Mi A2, the Chinese phone maker Xiaomi started its Android Go phone series with the Redmi Go. The handset is a great choice for those who are short on budget. Even with 1GB of RAM, the phone still offers a decent user experience with some occasional lags during everyday uses. However, you can’t ask much from a phone with an Rs. 4,999 price tag. In addition, the phone also has support for more than 20 languages in India which is great for those who don’t know much about English.

As mentioned, the handset with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage is priced at Rs. 4,499 and come in Blue and Black color variants.

The Redmi Go has a 5-inch display with HD (1,280 x 720p) resolution. Under the hood, it runs on the quad-core Snapdragon 425 SoC, paired with an Adreno 308 GPU and 1GB RAM.

In terms of camera, it sports a single 8MP camera on the rear with an f/2.0 aperture and a LED flash. The handset is claimed to be able to record FHD videos along with real-time filters, smart scene detection, and HDR features. Up front, the selfie duty will be in charge by a 5MP camera with an aperture of f/2.2. The selfie camera also has HDR features which is the first for an entry-level device.

The Redmi Go only has one memory configuration which is 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB via a dedicated microSD slot. Buyers can upload their high-resolution photos in on Google Photos for free as well. It is backed by a 3,000mAh cell which is decent for an average useage.
