What You May Expect To See On Smartphones In 2030

We will look at a few changes in smartphones emerged in the last few years and our own prediction of whether they can continue to survive for long

The end of the year 2019 also marks the end of a decade. In the last ten years, we have seen trends come and go, especially in the tech world. Have you ever wondered what your smartphones will look like by the year 2030?

In this article, we look at a few changes in personal handsets that emerged in the last few years and our own prediction of whether they can continue to survive for long.

Foldable Phones Of The Future

We first saw a foldable phone in 2019 with the Galaxy Fold and Motorola Razr

We first saw a foldable phone in 2019 with the Galaxy Fold and Motorola Razr. Other electronics giants also have their ideas of what they think foldable phones should look or work. So in the next few years, we may see the concept become more popular.

Whether each of us may own a foldable phone depends on the way phone makers navigate in the next few years. For now, they are mostly gimmicks that appeal to tech lovers rather than a more mainstream market. This can be explained by the hefty price for each item that pushes it out of the reach of the majority of people. Besides, the software has not been developed enough to run smoothly with a kind of phone that can be bent.

So the question here is whether software and phone makers are able to lower the price of these foldable devices to make them more available to the general public.

Will 5G And 6G Be Popular?

5G has already been out in many nations but we still do not what the future holds for this technology. The improved speed does not mean that everyone will want to have a connection to it, given the fact that 4G is already fast enough for most people’s needs.

In the next ten years, more and more manufacturers will introduce 5G-enabled handsets, making it normal to have a 5G phone, much like how easy it is to purchase a 4G phone now.

If the day when 5G becomes as popular as 4G comes, it might be because people have no other choice but to buy a 5G phone rather than they desperately need a faster speed.

You could even see 6G rolled out to the public in the next few years.

The Future For Selfie Cameras

Will we see even more sensors on future smartphones? Highly likely because the selfie is one of the most common types of photos you take with your smartphones and that fact has not changed yet

One of the biggest fusses of the year 2019 is about the front-facing camera. What many users are curious as 2020 is upon us is what the selfie snapper will look like for smartphones releasing the next decade. Whether the teardrop, punch-hole notch, or pop-up mechanism remain the top choices or the manufacturers will embrace something entirely different.

Another possibility is that none of these above will survive as the in-display technology has become a thing in 2019.

Oppo has already had samples of the tech and it is only one of the companies that are experimenting with the idea. The most obvious benefit of a camera hidden under the screen is that users will finally have an uninterrupted display, which the pop-up mechanism also offers.

That is for the position of the camera, but what about the cameras themselves? Last year, we have seen the first double-snapper setup makes it to the front of some smartphones, with one sensor for picture-taking and the other for blurring the background. Will we see even more sensors on future smartphones? Highly likely because the selfie is one of the most common types of photos you take with your smartphones and that fact has not changed yet.

Goodbye Ports

We have seen some smartphone prototypes without any port

Smartphone makers are ditching the headphone jacks in favor of more trendy features. So by the year 2030, we may hardly see any port on smartphones.

As wireless headphones are taking the throne of their wired variants, not many users will see a use for a headphone jack anymore. With the development of Bluetooth technology, by the year 2030, we may not even see any wired headphones or earbuds.

Another feature that is being threatened to be removed is the USB port to connect your phone to a laptop or the charger. This idea has already in the making as last year, we have seen some smartphone prototypes without any port, meaning they have to rely on Wi-Fi, NFC, cellular data, and wireless charging tech to share and receive data with other devices.

People will find themselves in much less need of wires and chargers as wireless charging technology gets more attention in the next few years. So in 2030, portless smartphones will be the new normal, much like wireless headphones.

More Rear Cameras?

However, the thing is, we only have a limited number of lenses available so there will come a time when adding more lenses will not add any new benefit

When even Apple has to add the third lens, you may think that we will have even more than that number in the future. However, the thing is, we only have a limited number of lenses available so there will come a time when adding more lenses will not add any new benefit.

What we can hope for is the addition of megapixels. By the end of last year, the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 was the first smartphone to feature a 108MP camera, becoming the device with the highest pixel count. As time goes by, the number might go through the roof.

Scientists estimated that normal human eyes can only see 576MP, given that the picture is right in front of their faces and they have a healthy and flawless vision. So not many people can see that much megapixels to need a camera of even near 576MP.

While we have to wait and see if any of these prediction comes true, here are some great smartphones for every budget you can buy right now:
