First Android Go Edition Smartphone Of Xiaomi Get Certified, Might Launch Soon

Xiaomi is expected to launch a new smartphone embracing the Android Go programme of Google and it is called Redmi Go with Android 9-based Android Go.

Xiaomi’s first smartphone embracing stock Android, Mi A1 was launched last year based on Google’s Android One programme. The Chinese phone maker followed up by releasing the Mi A2 earlier in this year and it is now set to embrace the Google’s Android Go programme also. And close to the end of 2018, a new Redmi phone, with model number M1903C3GG based on the Android Go, was certified with Russia’s EEC, US’s FCC and Singapore’s IMDA.

The listing for this Xiaomi handset, dubbed Redmi Go, hints that the device will run the latest Android 9 Pie Go edition, making the phone not only the first Xiaomi device to run Android Go but also the first to have Android Go version of Android 9 Pie. In case if you don’t know what Android Go is, Android Go is a light version of Android which has been designed to work on devices with 1GB or less RAM.

The alleged Redmi Go will support Bluetooth 4.2, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and dual SIM as well. As it is set to embrace Google’s Android Go, the phone will only have 1G RAM. The listings also suggest that the handset’s dimensions are 141x71mm and it will come with a screen smaller than 6-inch diagonally.

Nashville Chatter was the first to spot the details of this upcoming handset which is claimed to come with a price of below €100. The listings show that the phone might be just a version of Redmi 6A running Android Go.

There are not a lot of information about the Redmi Go but it still reveals the plans of Xiaomi to support the Android One and Android programme of Google. When the Xiaomi Mi A1 was launched, the Android One program got a massive boost. If Xiaomi indeed releases an Android Go-powered smartphone, then this program may get more attention from other smartphone producers.

As Android Go is mostly for low-end smartphones, the handset may come with only a singer camera on the rear and 8GB storage. It also possibly sports a smaller screen with an aspect ratio of 16:9 instead of 18:9 on newer handsets. Xiaomi is set to launch its gaming smartphone Xiaomi Play on an event in the Chinese market on 24 December and this phone might be introduced there as well.
