Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 allows a slew of camera features that are coming to flagship Android phones next year. While the manufacturer’s software determines most of the outcomes of the photos, the phone’s chip provides the prowess for photo and video capturing.
Snapdragon 888 is the first chip featuring three ISPs (short for image signaling processors) Qualcomm has ever made. These ISPs allow for parallel processing and triple camera concurrency.

In simpler terms, if the chip powers a phone with a triple camera setup, consisting of a telephoto, a primary, and an ultra-wide, the Snapdragon 888 will enable them to take 28MP shots simultaneously. What’s more, users will be able to record 4K HDR videos from all three cameras. The chip is capable of shooting 2.7 gigapixels per second, which translates to 120 12MP shots each second.
Another new feature is the ability to capture images with 10-bit HDR color depth, a feature iOS users have been able to do for some time.
Video-wise, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 allows for 4K playback and record at 120FPS – the frame rate was capped at 60FPS before the new chip is launched. Another ability is recoding videos at long, medium, and short exposure, as well as combining the three. With previous chips, the trick is available for photos but now we can use it for videos.
Qualcomm announced the ability to record videos with Dolby Vision HDR in 2019. Apple introduced the same thing on the iPhone 12 lineup two months ago.

The company also said the Snapdragon 888 provides AI-based enhancement that enhances auto white balance, auto exposure, and autofocus.
2021 will see a host of smartphones from reputable makers all over the world adapting the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. So far, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Realme have confirmed the appearance of the chip on their products. Samsung’s upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S21, will have the chip in some markets.
