Some of the early adopters of Android 10 have already run into problems with a bug on their Pixel phones. It remains unclear what triggers the bug, but upgrading the Pixel to Android 10 has killed sensors on some phones. So far, it looks like there’s no way to overcome this problem with the OS.

Several users have gone to Reddit, the Google Issue Tracker, XDA Forums, as well as other message boards to post about the bug. The affected sensors cause many settings and features to fail, like auto-brightness adjustments, auto-correct, in-call screen controls, and other gyroscopic or gesture-based shortcuts. It’s likely that all Pixel phones are vulnerable to this bug, and users who have filed reports include both those who flashed Android 10 directly to their devices and those who update their phones over the air.

Although there are a lot of complaints, the issue with sensors seems rare and random, which means it’s not on a large enough scale to totally quit upgrading to Android 10. Nevertheless, this is still a dangerous bug.
At the moment, probably the best thing you can do is rolling back to Android Pie. While the process will take a lot of time, users have reported that it helped restore all devices with no issues. After this incident, if you still want to try Android 10, you should wait to see how the company will fix this problem.
