Xiaoda, Xiaomi’s lamp that is said to be able to eliminate Coronavirus in the air is now on Youpin in the form of a crowdfunding project.
For now, the lamp is available for 79 Yuan (Rs. 806). When it is available to the public at the tail end of February, Xiaoda will be retailed for 149 Yuan (Rs. 1,520).
The lamp draws power from a 700 mAh battery and can be charged via mcroUSB. Xiaoda’s compact design allows users to bring it along when needed.
Here is how the lamp works. Xiaoda makes use of ultra-violet rays and an ozone distribution system to kill off viruses in the air. Ozone is known as a strong anti-virus substance while UV-C can eliminate viruses by destroying their DNA and acid nucleic.
However, as UV-C can cause cancer for humans, the manufacturers warned that users should not be in the same room with the device once it is activated. What users have to do is to press and hold the power button for three seconds. After that, the lamp will blink to indicate that it is on. Now users have 30 seconds to leave the room to avoid being affected by the UV-C.
According to Xiaomi, Xiaoda can eliminate 99,9% of the viruses in the air and it works best in small and confined space. Users can place it in the bathroom, refrigerator, or bedroom.
Coronavirus is believed to be extra sensitive to sunlight, temperature, and the air’s moisture. The virus can spread faster if the air is dry. Research has pointed out that viruses can only live in bodies and can only last up to 30 minutes in the air.
