While tech giants around the world are joining the COVID-19 fight with their own capabilities, Xiaomi is doing the same in India. According to a Monday announcement from the Chinese phone maker, the company will donate lakhs of N95 face masks as well as protective suits in the country to help fight the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, Xiaomi will donate hazmat suits to doctors fighting the battle at government hospitals, AIIMS for example.
This initiative from the company will help frontline workers prepare well to fight COVID-19. As the number of confirmed cases is rising day by day, healthcare workers are fighting tooth and nail while they lack resources such as face masks, hazmat suits, and ventilators. It’s great news that Xiaomi is kicking in to help our healthcare workers.
The phone maker will distribute the masks in select states. The company’s Global Vice President and Xiaomi India’s Managing Director Manu Jain said that the distribution will likely take place in Karnataka, Delhi, and Punjab, among other states.
He also said that Xiaomi India has taken measures of precaution against COVID-19 like curtailing external meetings and business travel, making sure all employees and partners wear face masks in public as well as keep their hands clean.
According to the company, its facilities including Mi Home stores, service centers, warehouses, and corporate offices will follow the lockdown orders if required by the state and UTs.
It was noted by Jain that all Mi Homes now have Delivery on Call service activated, meaning users can call the closest Mi store, order the product they want and get it delivered to their homes. All the staff at Mi Homes will also wear masks all the time while sanitizing their hands regularly for walk-in customers.
Xiaomi is not selling these masks at its stores or retail platforms to avoid hoarding. The company will also prioritize those who need the masks the most, especially nurses and doctors.
