Last week, Digital Chat Station – a Chinese leaker, said many smartphone makers scheduled to introduce handsets with support for 100W wireless charging in 2021.
While we haven’t heard anything about 100W charging yet but Xiaomi a few days ago announced something really close – the first 80W wireless charging in the world.
According to Xiaomi’s announcement, its technology can fill a 4,000mAh battery in merely 19 minutes. To put things into perspective, the fastest charging speed we have before that of Xiaomi is 8 minutes to charge half of the battery.
However, the company hasn’t said anything about when the first phone with this tech would make it to the market. Since it’s already launched its flagship phone for 2020, Xiaomi is likely to wait until next year to release the smartphone with 80W wireless charging support.
This tech is a real leap from the 50W wireless charging tech on the Mi 10 Ultra, which fully charges the handset’s 4,500mAh battery in 40 minutes.
While a fast charging speed is what most users want, we will have to wait and see how phone makers ease the effect of the tech on batteries’ lifespan.
