The COVID-19 outbreak has led to people having to stay indoors, practicing social distancing. To minimize the network load, streaming platforms have had to temporarily reduce video quality. And WhatsApp, the messaging service from Facebook, is the latest to join the list. WhatsApp Indian users can only upload video status that is 15 seconds long instead of 30 seconds like before.
The info was pointed out on Twitter by WABetaInfo, whenever a user tries to upload a video status on WhatsApp, the length of the video is now limited.

The account suggests that this move is probably an initiative to lessen the pressure put on the server infrastructures.
The messaging service has imposed the new status limit via a server-side change. Therefore, it does not matter even when you don’t update your app. You will see a message that announces the change in the length of the video status when you open the status upload screen.
WABetaInfo, however, also mentions that this should only be a temporary change amid the pandemic when there are too many staying at home. Once the situation is settled, the change will be reserved. With that said, as a workaround, you can try to upload several multiple follow-up statuses, but we don’t recommend you doing it.

This is WhatsApp’s effort to reduce the pressure put on the server infrastructures during the pandemic. Previously, the company teamed up with UNICEF, UNDP, and WHO to create a WhatsApp Coronavirus Information Hub to deal with misinformation. The company also launched a Coronavirus chatbot to provide users with credible COVID-19-related information.
