YouTube Music has recently announced an update for its app with a new feature which allows users to effortlessly toggle back and forth between two modes: listening to a song and watching its music video. The transitions will cause no pauses or interruptions.
If there is a music video for a song you are listening to, the app will display “Video” and “Song” tabs at the top of the screen. Tapping on the “Video” button, the corresponding music video will start playing. Conversely, tapping on the “Song” tab will switch back to the song and its cover art. With the time-matching feature, your current playback position will be retained when you switch formats.
An official blog post reads:
If you are not interested in switching to a music video, you can switch “don’t play music videos” option to the “on” position in the settings.
According to YouTube, this new feature will work for more than 5 million official music videos that have been perfectly time-matched to the respective audio tracks. The update will make it easier for users to look further into the song without the need to search separately.
Starting from July 18, this feature is exclusively available for all Premium subscribers on both Android and iOS apps.
There have been a lot of improvements made on the YouTube Music app recently. For example, YouTube Music has updated its Offline Mixtape with a new feature called “Smart Downloads”, which will automatically pull down hundreds of tracks when activated. In addition, YouTube Music’s free ad-supported tier allows Google Home speakers to play music right from the platform.
